Anybody else see Tokitenkuu's missed kick on Chiyootori and think of Charlie Brown and the football?

That was one of the most hilarious and goofy moves I have seen in Ozumo so far.

My first thought was a mash-up video showing the kick again and again with the famous "Can Can" by Jacques OOffenbach as soundtrack.

Missed it (started watching @ Sadanoumi's bout). Can't wait to see it - hope someone will upload the video.

@PhorCillic: here is the bout (although the title seems wrong)

Great bouts today, especially Terunofuji vs Osunaarashi was epic! And I don't miss Hakuho. This basho is so exciting. I'm looking forward to a three-way ketteisen with Kakuryu, Kisenosato and Terunofuji.

Thanks, Tenshinhan :)

Yeah, Despite those losses, The Great Sandstorm is still fighting. :)

Three-way Ketteisen would be really the best option. But we will see after the Senshuraku.

All Kisenosato jokes aside, that looks like a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for him. Well, twice-in-a-lifetime if you count the Kyokutenho Yusho...

No Hakuho, no Harumafuji (which, combined with the current banzuke makeup also limits quite a lot Terunofuji's Isegahama scheduling advantage) and Kakuryu already a win down. He really should set his sights on winning that one.

Bad advice. He should not set his sights on anything at all. He should continue as is, no reading newspapers and no talking to anyone. Then, just maybe, he can win it.

Takayasu was wheeled out after his bout

Was shown at length on a video.

Exactly. And you failed to mention that it was a dark conspiracy so that Kisenosato can get the yusho.. :-) :-) :-) :-) :-)

Anyone doing rikishi comments this time? I hope Kisenosato says, means and truly believes he should do, "my sumo every day, one match at a time." Anything more said and... it won't be pretty, again.

Really hoping for Kisenosato yusho, but wouldn't it be more of a glorious victory if Hakuho and Harumafuji were still in and competing for the cup? I already miss Hakuho :(

Posted

Perhaps more glorious but... as they say, kachi wa kachi, yusho wa yusho. It will be a yusho in the books no matter who is left competing by the end.

If no one else is doing rikishi talk then perhaps I'll take a stab at trolling the news for the comments and translating them. I haven't translated anything in sumo forum in years.

You got it 100% right- check out the talks thread.

That was painful to watch. I already had a bad feeling when Ichinojo was pushing him towards the tawara and Takayasu was resisting with all his might... I feel sorry for him, he seems like a nice guy and has shown spirited sumo in the last couple of basho. Hope it's nothing serious.

Good to see! I hope he heeds Kitanoumi's words.

Thanks for the translations.

Terunofuji - Osuunarashi bouts are usually really great. Their 9 meetings back-to-back on a video would make a decent sumo ad. There was one real epic which I cannot seem to find on youtube any longer (I think from Aki 2013).

Takayasu situation-can walk, but doctor says there is pain and swelling. Final decision tomorrow.

He just needs to do more keiko and he will be just fine... *cynical smirk*

Yoshikaze, DOUBLE kinboshi, WOW!! get that KK so you can have the outstanding performance this basho!

-Ichinojo, well done, he would appear to have woken up in time for the basho (so far)

-Kotoyuki, Toyohibiki-style for the second day in a row, but still a fan.

-Tochiozan, here's hoping that CHOKIozan doesn't appear around day 11 or so.....

-Tochinoshin, first win. Hoping to get that kk to stay in sanyaku.

-Goeido, is Goeido.

-Kagamio, channeled is inner-Harumafuji VERY well.

-Ross Mihara, still going strong :-D

Osunaarashi-Terunofuji was great.......Osunaarashi unfortunate to be 0-3 as he's wrestled well. I'm loving this basho so far with Hakuho out, Kak having a loss, and Terunofuji and several Japanese rikishi looking strong......WHAT WILL HAPPEN?!?

And a quick question, when someone comes up from juryo for a bout does a loss in makuuchi count the same as a loss in juryo? Obviously a loss is a loss but I've wondered if those in charge of promotion and demotion will look at it differently since it was in a higher division.

No, it doesn't matter what division the loss is from. They try to give guys a spread of matches such that those that are higher ranked generally face higher ranked opponents, and one way of doing that is having low ranked rikishi from Makuuchi face high ranked rikishi from Juryo. This is absolutely necessary when there are odd numbers, but sometimes they intentionally add some to get a better mix of matches for the rikishi near the border. They tend to only look at win-loss records for most movements, although particular performances might cause them to get ranked slightly higher or lower when there's a question of who should be ranked higher based only on their records.
