d_golem Posted August 5, 2015 Posted August 5, 2015 Ikioi is definitely most photogenic at this particular angle.
Gurowake Posted August 6, 2015 Posted August 6, 2015 What about the mole just to the right of the spine? Surely only one of them has that too.
Hakuhonofan Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 From the color of mawashi, it's Hakuho's trademark.
inhashi Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 If it were Hakuho, the Gyoji's tassles would be purple (higher ranking). Gyoji above, looks like Kimura Tamajiro, has orange tassles (sanyaku rank). Looks like Ikioi to me.
Gurowake Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 There was only one day with 3 Yokozuna bouts in the last 6 months, and Hakuho fought last that day. Would they use an older picture? The rather prominent mole is the most telling feature; someone who cares just needs to find a good reference photo of Hakuho (more likely that such one exists than for Ikioi). 1
d_golem Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Hakuho have rather "outward" lower earlobes, while the one in the pic is somewhat normal. My money is with Ikioi.
Benevolance Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 You can tell it's Ikioi by the lack of yuushos in the picture. 1
Gurowake Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 Apparently it bugged me enough to go looking for pictures. I first tried to find some of Hakuho's back, but most of the image results for "Hakuho's back" are not actually of his back, and the few that are aren't very high quality or there's glare from the lights. What little I found seemed to indicate no evidence of the trademark mole, but nothing I could be certain of. So I went looking for Ikioi pictures instead as a last hope. Check the headline picture here. Rikishi with back to camera identified as Ikioi, and he has a fairly obviously mole in the right place you can just about see without zooming in. If you save the picture and zoom in (it's rather high quality), it's quite obvious.
Chisaiyama Posted August 7, 2015 Posted August 7, 2015 (edited) If all that weren't enough this fellow is on the West side of the Dohyo, when was the last time Hakuho entered the Dohyo from the West side? Hatsu basho of 2014, so if this picture is that old it could be Hakuho otherwise not likely. Edited August 7, 2015 by Chisaiyama
torquato Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Interesting argument. But what if the designers have flipped the original picture vertically... Nevertheless, Ikioi seems to be the strongest case here.
Gurowake Posted August 8, 2015 Posted August 8, 2015 Interesting argument. But what if the designers have flipped the original picture vertically... I thought about that too, but it looks to me like the Gyoji is not holding a gunbai in his visible hand, and would typically be holding it in his right, which is off-picture if not flipped. 1
luispereira Posted August 9, 2015 Author Posted August 9, 2015 it's ikioi for sure.. good for him!, hope he makes the mirror record of the last basho...
