Akinomaki Posted July 29 Posted July 29 (edited) One piece of art no longer to be seen: a wooden rikishi statue in the old Aichi pref. gymnasium, reported as with the face of governor Omura. He always did a bout with a top rikishi before the basho on the visit to the pref. office, as long as mayor Kawamura did - no longer this year after Kawamura retired from his job. It had been installed for the 50th anniversary of the hall 10 years ago. The statue won't be moved to the new arena. o o 2024 with Onosato o Edited July 29 by Akinomaki 1
Akinomaki Posted August 14 Posted August 14 At the Onaga scare crow road in Nomi, Ishikawa, the new yokozuna of the prefecture is present - this year a high quality scare crow a bit down the road it's likely Oshoumi, also from Tsubata town o I don't know if these scare crows are preserved, some nebuta are. In Sakura 佐倉, Chiba, one of Raiden is on display. He lived there in his last days - baseball's Nagashima is from the city area. Store-owners from the city had them made in 2016, by the appropriate man: 5th Aomori nebuta master Chiba Sakuryu. They paraded at a local matsuri for 3 years. o
RussReimroc Posted September 19 Posted September 19 (edited) The banner I designed for the Sumo Memes subreddit the only design requirements were that it needed to feature the two Yokozuna! I've done a few in this style, will try to share more in the next little while. I tried my best here to imitate the red seals I have seen stamped on tegata, it was an interesting learning experience Edited September 19 by RussReimroc 3
RussReimroc Posted September 20 Posted September 20 A few months back I drew this picture of Ikazuchido, who is currently wrestling in the Sandanme division. I became interested in him as a rikishi after seeing how he throws his opponents despite being so much lighter! I mailed this picture(along with a handwritten letter expressing my support... hopefully my Japanese writing wasn't too hard to read) to him and received a response via social media after the conclusion of the ongoing basho. Easily one of my favourite sumo related memories! Please excuse the pencil marks next to the kanji... I forgot to take another picture after I erased them 4
RussReimroc Posted September 22 Posted September 22 Hoshoryu. I drew this one while testing a new brush on my art program. Spent a lot of time on the hair... it takes a lot of effort but it's always worth it! 3
RussReimroc Posted September 22 Posted September 22 More Hoshoryu... can you guess who my favourite is? This one was done on some card stock I found at work and drawn with Bic pens. This one was done digitally. I like to draw this style because it incentivizes me to colour it too, which is something I often skip. 1
Akinomaki Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Something from the unusual arts again: a knit together wool figure of Onosato about the likeness: o - among the biggest figures Nozawa-san has produced so far, she made them mainly after sports athletes o unryu dohyo-iri with the gorilla curry kesho mawashi - not in a set so far, but maybe he'll get one from the pref. local Kanazawa curry chain now On 08/01/2025 at 09:19, Akinomaki said: Onosato got a new one from Go-Go Curry gogocurry.com, an Ishikawa pref. based restaurant chain serving Kanazawa curry https://kanazawacurry-kyokai.com/ with the company lo-go-rilla, in the brand colour o 1
RussReimroc Posted September 30 Posted September 30 Very cool! I wonder if she's done any other sumo ones.
Akinomaki Posted November 14 Posted November 14 More Onosato scarecrows - at the 38th Satomi scare crow festival in Hitachiota, Ibaraki o with shisho and dohyo-iri attendants Takayasu and Takanosho o
RussReimroc Posted Monday at 00:37 Posted Monday at 00:37 Picture I drew of Kitanofuji after he passed. It later went on display locally. (Side note- Yay! I can post images again!) 2
