If you are saying competing in maezumo once is enough, this is the usual case, but not always true. A quick search turned up several rikishi who've had to go do maezumo a second time just within the past 10 years.

I meant, competing for one bout in Mae-zumo is enough to pass it for this time, qualify for Jonokuchi next basho (even if it is a loss).

Your observation is correct, if a Rikishi drops off the Banzuke, he has to Mae-zumo again.
