Kaikitsune Makoto Posted June 29, 2004 Posted June 29, 2004 Shoryu went to Naruto-beya keiko and had 14 bouts against Tamanoshima, Wakanosato, Hagiwara and others. 11-3 record including tsuriotoshi against Tamanoshima and complete ironing of Hagiwara. Hagiwara's first training bout against Shoryu ended when Shoryu couldn't tsuri him and instead unleashed a big kakenage. Hagiwara landed on his back and held his waist in pain. "Daijobu!" he yelled though and looked ok. "Power and speed difference was big" he sighed after the bout.
Chienoshima Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 And here is a picture of the beating : When Hagiwara was down, Asashoryu yelled at him : "Get up now, and put more spirit in your bout !". When a journalist asked Asashoryu to talk about Hagiwara, he said : "He is not good. He has to fight with more intensity". Cheers, Chienoshima
bennyloh Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 That was a kakenage throw, very fast and very powerful! Look at how he lands on his back ( traces of sand all over where he landed) and the pain too! Would really love to see one in action- live.
Gusoyama Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Asa has been doing this to a lot of the up and comers lately, and after bashos to maegashira who do well. Its almost like its his way of saying "I'm the alpha dog around here, and don't you forget it!" This is further reinforced with his shouting. Its alright, though, I have a feeling Hagi will catch up to the Yokozuna a lot quicker than Asa would like.
Coo-cook Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Is Shoryu taming his future rival, or what ? Poor kid Hagiwara, I don't want him injured and end up being a mediocre rikishi.
bennyloh Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 Practice makes perfect. A throw that is very prone to counter - throws too. Asa has to put in more efforts; to be sharper when the opportunity to do this throw arises and to do it knowing it is sure and safe to do so. Asa is learning too, don't believe he is taming anyone. Nothing much to pity Hagiwara or any new chaps, infact they should be thankful for the lessons from Asa. That is the only way to learn. No pain no gain! Afterall everyone knows how to breakfall and deep in their hearts they are crying for more from their seniors.
Stephanoshima Posted June 30, 2004 Posted June 30, 2004 infact they should be thankful for the lessons from Asa. That is the only way to learn. Exactly. I don't see much value in training with the best (=Asa) when both sides are not giving everything. I can't think of a single sport or profession where it is not considered a great honor and opportunity to train with the best. Yet, as soon as Asa gets involved, everything's different, as always - against him, it's considered punishment, humiliation and what not. Also, those guys aren't amateurs - they have learned how to avoid getting injured, and injuries in training happen in all sports (ok, most sports, even though I can imagine some nasty things that could happen with a snooker cue (Proverbial apple...) ), all the time - you just can't train casually all the time and then reasonably expect to deliver a 100% effort when it counts.
