Kintamayama Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 (edited) Ichinojou went to some function yesterday. "Red Feather Community Chest" together with Aminishiki. With a collection box around their necks, people lined up to give donations amidst cries of "Ichinojou, Ichinojou". He was a bit nervous at his first event. "Smile and wave to the people.." said Aminishiki, so he did. Later, the press surrounded him. "Talk to them for an hour or two.." advised Aminishiki and went to eat something. Waiving his right: "If you don't eat your vegetables, Ichinojou will come and eat you!!" Terrified kid. Edited October 2, 2014 by Kintamayama 13
shumitto Posted October 2, 2014 Posted October 2, 2014 Ichinojo has finally graduated from sumo school. Although sekitori are exempted, he and Endo kept on going till graduation. Ichinojo's best memory from this time is keiko. Pictures http://www.asahi.com/articles/photo/AS20141002004226.html 2

Kintamayama Posted October 4, 2014 Author Posted October 4, 2014 Ichinojou will make a mage on Banzuke announcement day, October 27th, it was known today. He first intended to do it next week at the start of the Aki Jungyo. "We tried it right after the basho but he seemed in pain so we decided to postpone it a bit," said Minato Oyakata. 4

Kintamayama Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Ichinojou was on the receiving end of some "love treatment " from Yokozuna Kakuryuu for about 10 minutes at the jungyo yesterday, causing the crowd to beg Kakuryuu to stop and be more forgiving. As we all remember, he beat Kakuryuu by henka last basho, causing the Yokozuna to lose face. This was payback time. "It was intense, but I was happy to be able to borrow the Yokozuna's chest." He also had some training bouts against Terunofuji, Chiyoootori and others and was 3-12. He was trying out all sorts of techniques, some rarely attempted by someone of his size. Additionally, he is working on his tachiai, his Achilles' heal by his own admission. Ichinojou will probably be ranked in Sanyaku next basho. "I know I'll get a big ranking boost next basho so I've got to give it my all in order to be ready!" he added. Endou watches as Kakuryuu "loves": Ichinojou searches for his contact lens. . Kintamayama Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 Today, at the Aki Jungyo in Saitama - Ichinojou had 6 bouts, Endou had 7. One bout between them, where Endou won by yorikiri after securing a morozashi (both hands inside) hold. "Endou-zeki is very good at grabbing the mawashi. The Jungyo is long, so we shall probably face each other again.." said Ichinojou. He also borrowed Kakuryuu's chest for the second day running. Endou: "I'd like to change for the better bit by bit.." 4
Kintamayama Posted October 11, 2014 Author Posted October 11, 2014 (edited) Joukouryuu fractured a bone on his left thumb today- 5 weeks of rest needed. He had it bandaged and then returned to the hall. "I'll be doing what I can. I'll be OK for Kyushu," he remarked. Edited October 11, 2014 by Kintamayama 3
Kintamayama Posted October 12, 2014 Author Posted October 12, 2014 The Aki Jungyo came to Kanazawa today, Endou's home town. 4350 lively fans turned out to watch the local boy from close up. He was visibly happy from all the attention and showed good sumo to show his appreciation of the fans. Morning keiko was very hectic as he was beating everyone and even Hakuhou, who was watching, instinctively applauded him.. Even when backed up to the edge, Endou did not give up and won. "I was aware of the loud cheers every time I got on the dohyo or had a bout, so naturally that gave me a lot of strength.." he said. The rikishi arrived the night before after a 6 and a half hour bus ride, arriving at 10 PM, so there was no time for a night out on the town. "I had a good night's sleep so that the fans won't have to see someone with a tired, sleep-deprived face.." he joked. "A lot of them told me to gambarize next basho and others told me to become stronger. That made me want to gambarize more and more!!" he summed Endou beats Ichinojou, Hakuhou instinctively applauds..: 8
yorikiried by fate Posted October 13, 2014 Posted October 13, 2014 Judging from Hakuho's pose, this is rather the opposite of "instictively".
Kintamayama Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 Judging from Hakuho's pose, this is rather the opposite of "instictively". Don't judge a Yokozuna by his cover. The "instinctively" comes from the fact that you're not "supposed" to show any kind of cheering, let alone if you are a Yokozuna, even if it's the jungyo, even if it's in the morning, and even if you were deprived of a night out.... And, well, I only translate. 4

Kintamayama Posted October 13, 2014 Author Posted October 13, 2014 (edited) The Aki jungyo was held in Takaoka today. Shouhouzan is facing Tochinowaka. Oguruma Oyakata sees Endou's favorite towel and notices it has Nagatanien's (Endou's sponsor's, ) emblem (the exact same emblem as on their kensho banners) on it. He tells Tochinowaka to take it and walk around the dohyo as if it was a kensho banner, bringing the house down with much laughter and clapping. "This is jungyo- the keiko is serious, but having some fun at the right moment is great as well," said Oguruma later. Tochinowaka walks with the "banner", Shouhouzan claps, and Endou is totally bewildered.. Edited October 13, 2014 by Kintamayama 14
Akinomaki Posted October 14, 2014 Posted October 14, 2014 (edited) Now Ichinojo is kyujo for the jungyo with pain in the back and in the knees after 3 days of intense kawaigari treatment by yokozuna Kakuryu (who wanted to continue that yesterday).Posing with Hakuho for the next edition of the monthly magazine "sumo" .Today had some specials on him in the wide shows (Ex-Asashoryu twittered that he expects him to go to yokozuna), speculating if he can become the fastest to reach yokozuna, already for next year's Kyushu basho. For a while now the new recruits used to say they want to reach yokozuna, now the public expects a near-future yokozuna again after just some good results in the beginning. Being realistic seems to be no virtue in sumo. Edited October 14, 2014 by Akinomaki 4
Kintamayama Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Ichinojou was kyujo from today's jungyo held at Kanazawa. He was diagnosed with the shingles (did he go to a shingles bar last night?) He will be in hospital for a week. "He says it Stings with every breath he takes. It's probably due to the stress he's been under after gaining this sudden popularity. Well, what can we do.. If he gets better he will re-appear," said Minato Oyakata. Itchy-nojou (I'm on fire tonight..) has been sidelined since the 14th. He will be getting an IV drip and medication and hopes to return to the second half of the jungyo next week. Gurowake Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Unusual for someone that young to get shingles; it's usually caused by a depressed immune system that's unable to prevent the latent virus from manifesting itself enough to cause symptoms. Physical trauma is listed as one potential factor causing flare-ups of shingles, so he may have just been throw to the ground just a bit more than his body was able to handle. I don't see him as being under much psychological stress at this part of the cycle, but I suppose there may just be a general feeling of pressure on him to train hard so that he can perform well next basho even if it's not for another month.
Akinomaki Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Looks like Ichinojo is not yet mentally prepared to handle the new type of stress that comes with the hype - TV has something about him nearly every day. Edited October 17, 2014 by Akinomaki
ALAKTORN Posted October 18, 2014 Posted October 18, 2014 There we go again, hype killing another young rikishi. Can’t we learn from Gōeidō’s finally succesfull ōzeki run?
