Gurowake Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 NSK also lists J7w Masunoyama as withdrawn.
Fukurou Posted September 12, 2014 Author Posted September 12, 2014 NSK also lists J7w Masunoyama as withdrawn. Thanks, nice catch They added him after. I hate it when they do that.
Haruibono Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Is Masunoyama's problem an injury one, or is it tied up with his ongoing congenital problems?
Gurowake Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 Masunoyama had an injury near the end of last basho and is undergoing major surgery to repair it. More information on that can be found somewhere in this forum, but I don't recall where.
Kintamayama Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 (edited) Masunoyama is carrying his injuries for quite some time now (I believe he first injured his foot in 2011) and should have had surgery long ago. Edited September 12, 2014 by Kintamayama 1
I am the Yokozuna Posted September 12, 2014 Posted September 12, 2014 I never understood the love with him on this board. During the yaocho scandal he urged the new banzuke to be published earlier so he could become a part of the Juryo division and start getting salary because, his reasoning went, he spent at that time 300,000Â¥, or such extraordinary sum, on bandage a month and needed the money. If he needs a surgery and have not underwent it - you know it is because of the same thinking - pure greed. Anyhow, wish him best of luck and speedy recovery.
Fukurou Posted September 13, 2014 Author Posted September 13, 2014 Will everyone in Makushita appear, as the absence list implies? Or will the NSK add to the list in a little while? Or will someone just not show up on their day 1? Stay tuned 1
Asashosakari Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 Is Masunoyama's problem an injury one, or is it tied up with his ongoing congenital problems? In other news, Masunoyama is likely to miss the Aki basho after undergoing knee surgery last month. He was suffering pain in his right knee during the Nagoya basho, and sat out the summer jungyo in order to have the surgery. Missing the whole basho will result in him dropping to the Makushita division, but he is taking Tochinoshin as his example and seems set on fully rehabilitating the knee rather than risk coming back too soon.
Gurowake Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 STOP THE PRESSES RYUDEN LISTED ON THE TORIKUMI DAY 1 :P 2
I am the Yokozuna Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 I do not know where to post it but just found out that there is a cool application by the sumo federation for iPhones 大相撲 with a lot of graphics, info, bouts and specials - similar to the website design they have currently. It is in Japanese. And probably available only in Japan, but there is no way to find out. Anyhows, delete this if the info have been previously been posted,
Vikanohara Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 MAKUUCHI East Maegashira 13 HOMASHO SANDANME West Sandanme 74 ARAGYOSHI Homasho turning into a chronic injury ? And what's wrong with Aragyoshi ? :-(

Vikanohara Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 What I meant is that he keeps getting injured lately.

Or will someone just not show up on their day 1? Stay tuned If this is referring to the fact that only 29 Makushita matches are scheduled for Day 1, it's offset by there being more than half of Jonidan in action Day 1. I didn't think they did things like that, but I never really checked before.

I didn't think they did things like that, but I never really checked before. No, it's referring to nobody in Makushita withdrawing before the tournament started. (it's not too late for the NSK to add someone to the kyujo list, btw - it's happened that way before, as if they'd forgotten about someone) We'll also see if everyone appears for their 1st around match as scheduled. If not, then we see if that person(s) withdraws (did not go kyujo on purpose, or a late injury/illness decision) or just missed the bus (missed by accident - it has happened).

ryafuji Posted September 13, 2014 Posted September 13, 2014 What I meant is that he keeps getting injured lately. Your use of the word "chronic" was a little confusing though, it implied that you thought it was a long-term injury.

Your use of the word "chronic" was a little confusing though, it implied that you thought it was a long-term injury. Yes, I know. I had meant to put it like how you did now. So, corrected that gives : Homasho turning into a "chronic" injured rikishi ?
Fukurou Posted September 14, 2014 Author Posted September 14, 2014 Day 1 Fusen From the first match of the basho - West Jonokuchi 24 SODACHOZAKARI did not appear for his day 1 match. Why? He's retired!

Vikanohara Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 (edited) Day 2 West Maegashira 2 TOYONOSHIMA (0-1) has withdrawn. Oh, why ? That's a basho with 3 of my 4 favourites out ! :'-(Takanoyama retired, Aragyoshi kosho & Toyonshima kyujo) Fingers crossed for Ohara now ! Edited September 15, 2014 by Vikanohara
inhashi Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Ligament damage of his left knee. Not sure how serious. He's one of my favorites too :(
Kintamayama Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 Ligament damage of his left knee. Not sure how serious. He's one of my favorites too :( Two weeks recovery is the diagnosis.
Fukurou Posted September 15, 2014 Author Posted September 15, 2014 Day 1 Fusen From the first match of the basho - West Jonokuchi 24 SODACHOZAKARI did not appear for his day 1 match. Why? He's retired! Day 3 OK, so the NSK site says he's just withdrawn (because they don't usually list retirements until after the basho)
