Monnodo Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Hi there, I did not know where to post this, if this Forum has a question thread, I am very sorry. I was talking to my father the other day about watching sumo in the 90s and early 2000s. We watched a few matches and then we looked for one my father wanted to see so badly, but we could not find it. He says it was Musashimaru vs Takanohana. Musashimaru shoved Takanohana off the dohyo right after the Tachi-ai into the seconmd row (This might be a bit exaggerated). He thinks this match took place at a basho which included a Playoff between Musashimaru and Takanohana, which Musashimaru lost. Does anyone remember this match? Maybe the playoff story is wrong and he mixed something up. I looked up the bashos which included a play off between these two men (at least the ones that are on you tube) and could not find the match he wanted to see.Any help is apreciated^^
Asashosakari Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 At a glance I also wasn't able to find a bout that matches that description, but in any case, maybe the old video archive at http://www.banzuke.com/~movies/ can be of help to you. Covers only the year 2000 onward though, so only Takanohana's last couple of years.
Gaijingai Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 I am not sure if this is the match you want, but it was a playoff basho. I was there on Day 14 when Musoyama upset Takanohana in May 2001, injuring Takanohana's knee. The next day, day 15, Musashimaru and Takanohana met. Musashimaru did a "sort of henka", shifting aside at the tachiai and easily pushing a charging Takanohana down and out. It set up a playoff. Takanohana got a double mawashi grip on the back of Musashimaru's mawashi and backed him over the tawara. I really gained respect for Takanohana for that as his knee was really ripped up.
kuroimori Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 After looking at the title of this new thread, I sort of expected to find some kind of personal ad ;-) 5

Thanks for the advice, Even if I can not find it, knowing of a sumo archive is pretty cool^^ I am not sure if this is the match you want, but it was a playoff basho. Akinomaki Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 (edited) There is a playoff situation 1997, covered in my video presentation part 3 - but the loss by Taka before it is not that spectacular there - instead a long bout. Another situation from 2001 on youtube Edited August 6, 2014 by Akinomaki
Kintamayama Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 It's got to be Natsu 2001. http://www.banzuke.com/~movies/natsu2001/day15/takahana_musashi7.rm or http://www.banzuke.com/~movies/natsu2001/day15/takahana_musashi21.rm
Kintamayama Posted August 6, 2014 Posted August 6, 2014 Takanohana got a double mawashi grip on the back of Musashimaru's mawashi and backed him over the tawara. It was actually a hearty uwatenage. http://www.banzuke.com/~movies/natsu2001/day15/takahana_musashi21.rm
inhashi Posted September 6, 2014 Posted September 6, 2014 (edited) Here is a youtube link. Tachiai starts at 36:30 -- Musashimaru was nice enough to help him up from the spectators (Consoling...) Edited September 6, 2014 by inhashi
