shumitto Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 To be honest, I would pay nil for it. By the time I can bring myself to pay for something I have been getting for free, I will most likely have found something else to do with my time.
p2501 Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 The options in the polls don't really fit with what I would have in mind. I'd pay ~25€/basho for access to a video archive with the bouts of the current basho. I'd think it would be fair to charge something extra but not to much for older footage.
Bugman Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) I chose "Yes, unconditionally!" for the first question, "1 €/day (~15 €/basho, ~90 €/year)" for the second question and "Something else (please elaborate)" for the final question. So to elaborate, i answered these questions as i would have answered had i been employed, (i hope that's ok, if i answered them from a viewpoint of my current financial position it would look as if i wasn't interested in paying for Sumo, and that isn't the case.) At the present moment however i am unable to pay anything to watch. Ordinarily i'd be willing to pay the 90 Euros a year for the stream we already had, i personally have little interest in extras such as commentary or archives, commentary/professional opinions i already get from JasoninJapan's Youtube channel and this forum, and i'm not really into Sumo enough to go over old bouts unless they are part of a historical TV series which......i just realised were on Araibira's channel and will have been taken down. Jakusotsu Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I would gladly pay for bringing the archive back to sumodb.
torquato Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 A) Me paying? Dunno. Generally I hate paying for online content and being short of money currently... Maybe. B) pricing A (very) low quality stream should be free. As sort of a teaser. Extra HQ stream on a PPV basis at around $0.99/ $1.99 a day, $9.99 a basho. 1
Asojima Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 (edited) I opt for unconditionally at ~1 €/day (~15 €/basho, ~90 €/year) for the service level we have had for the last year or so. Add another 50% if they provide/allow some sort of delayed/archived viewing. The PPV seems to offer delayed viewing in about 1.5 hour chunks for 2 months. If they would post those chunks to UTube after 3-4 days and allow us to index them in the db, I would be fully satisfied. I view on a laptop or desktop screen, so I am very content with the video quality. I have no need for commentary or graphics beyond those already provided. My maximum with a lot of extras would be ~150 €/year. My limit is based on "perceived value" rather than economic considerations. Edit: In the meantime, I have swallowed the bitter NHK pill and resubscribed to TVJapan. I get excellent, recordable Makuuchi coverage at a very nominal fee. It meets my immediate needs, but I crave lower division coverage and a searchable long term video archive. Edited January 17, 2014 by Asojima 2
krindel Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I would not be willing to pay for the stream we had, without delayed viewing, since for me (and for most Europeans, i think) it is mostly within working hours and therefore cannot watch it live. For the one camera stream with the option of delayed viewing (but no other extras) I would be willing to pay about 20 euro per basho, maximum. For an NSK style coverage (in English) I would be probably willing to pay about twice that, although I would still find the price steep (comparing with what I already pay for other sports).
Raishu Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 I would gladly pay for bringing the archive back to sumodb. I second that!
Lost ballet fan Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 For the service they're currently offering I wouldn't mind paying up to 25 Euro per Basho. Anything more is just too much out of sync with comparable sport offers. Hockey for example is my biggest sport, and 110$ gets me the full season with over a 1000 matches in HD, live and archived...
furanohana Posted January 21, 2014 Posted January 21, 2014 (edited) 60 to 120 Euros per year for HD quality + comments etc. + all bouts on archive seems to me something that would be a fair price. Higher would be ridiculous, compared to all sports providing video services ! Edited January 21, 2014 by furanohana
JariM Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 Depends on how much money I have. Right now I'm a bit short on it.... But if I was rich I'd happily give Sumo a huge support. 1
Jakusotsu Posted January 22, 2014 Posted January 22, 2014 If I was rich, I would own the Kokugikan. 1
Manekineko Posted January 23, 2014 Author Posted January 23, 2014 (edited) Approximately a week later, those who cared to vote would mostly gladly pay for what we used to have for free, with archiving included (additional commentary and infographics seem not to be important). The fair price is considered to be ~1 €/day, and while we would be willing to pay extra for the access to archive bouts, not all of us value that much more highly than just the stream: about half of the voters would pay significantly higher price, but the rest consider some 30 % higher price to be acceptable. The point may be moot now with discovery of other channels to watch sumo, but AFAIK the stream remains the only one showing makushita and below. NSK should consider either giving that stream away for free, or for a very small charge, since those who watch and care for the lower divisions are really hardcore sumo fans. Mark.Buckton Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 If I was rich, I would own the Kokugikan. the NSK don't.
Jakusotsu Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 If I was rich, I would own the Kokugikan.the NSK don't.I know, and I would gladly collect the rent. 1
Gernobono Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 I know, and I would gladly collect the rent. making senshuraku more expensive and giving a discount if they rent it for a whole basho? 8
Jakusotsu Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 making senshuraku more expensive and giving a discount if they rent it for a whole basho?Yup, and I'd make sure they remove all the old stuff from the museum when a new basho begins. 6
sashimaru Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 If I was rich, I would own the Kokugikan. Would the sumo-stream be for free in the Kokugikan?
Jakusotsu Posted January 23, 2014 Posted January 23, 2014 Would the sumo-stream be for free in the Kokugikan?Hey, that's for the NSK to decide. B-)
