Chisaiyama Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Thank for running this game, it is one of my favorite. I am curious concerning the methodology of determining the W-L records. D doo you have a scale with fixed values for each W-L pt. based on 0-maximum points possible or do you perhaps create a spread based on the actual point spread each basho?
Zentoryu Posted November 25, 2013 Author Posted November 25, 2013 Thank for running this game, it is one of my favorite. I am curious concerning the methodology of determining the W-L records. D doo you have a scale with fixed values for each W-L pt. based on 0-maximum points possible or do you perhaps create a spread based on the actual point spread each basho? I have three different scales I use for win/loss distribution. They are all based on the same method, which basically compares a players point total to the average for all players in his (or her) division and awards wins based on the difference. I've used charts #1 and #2 since the game debuted some ten years ago, while chart #3 has only been in use for about 3 years. Now which one I use depends on a couple of factors. First factor is how tight the scoring is compared to the average. If the scoring spread is large, I will use chart #1 or #3. If the spread is very tight around the average, I use chart #2. Second factor I consider is which chart produces the best overall balance between total wins and losses for all players in their division. Chart 3 is very similar to #1 with some minor alterations and is the one that gets used the most these days since it tends to fit both criteria very well (most of the time, anyway). For instance, Chart #3 was used for all three divisions this basho.
Vikanohara Posted November 26, 2013 Posted November 26, 2013 I wonder how much better this would have been if I had picked Tamawashi, Kitataiki or even 'only' Tokitenku instead of Jokoryu ?
