at the Takanohana-ichimon (with Onomatsu, Otake, Tatsunami) koenkai encouragement party - 2nd act (after last year, which had about 1600 related persons from all involved heya) - also from the larger Takanohana-group (Shikoroyama, Minato, Tokitsukaze) - and Sanoyama (Chiyotaikai) and Kitanoumi-beya successor Yamahibiki (Ganyu) to make it 9 oyakata. http://mainichi.jp/articles/20160304/spn/00m/050/019000c.html

This year only about 150 supporters and 50 heya persons.

Takanohana appears in a new whisky CM (on TV on the 19th), for a Japan-only brand of Chivas Regal. He visited Scotland for the first time for the shooting of the CM.

Making Of the CM

Is it sold anywhere else besides Japan, I wonder? I'd like me a finger or two.

under 'mizunara chivas', i quickly found it for sale in states and australia (AU$112.)

i don't think it is new; one article written in august '13 forecast a release for october '13

scanning the first four hits gives me the impression it is widely available

maybe someone here has already tried it

Sanoyama-oyakata (Chiyotaikai) has (produced) a ramen restaurant now in Nagoya, in a student district: Marukyuu=⑨ - 九 is in Kokonoe 九重 - likely also his future oyakata name. He wants to open a 2nd one at another Nagoya student district location. http://www.chunichi.co.jp/chuspo/article/sumo/news/CK2016041502000131.html

Nishiiwa-oyakata visited the governor of Aomori. He will go against his old rival since primary school Furiwake (ex-Robocop) in his last bout as Wakanosato at his intai-zumo. http://www.toonippo.co.jp/news_too/nto2016/20160416012486.asp

Nishiiwa-oyakata

will go against his old rival since primary school Furiwake (ex-Robocop) in his last bout as Wakanosato at his intai-zumo.

ex-Wakanosato denies allegations that he might switch to martial arts like Baruto

P2016050501720_sumo_01_ken-ogp_0.jpg

he simply visited a boxing gym, got told he has a good punch, and taught to the 2 world champions shiko stamping in return. http://www.nikkansports.com/battle/sumo/news/1642387.html

Poor Furiwake - Nishiiwa tries to get in form for this last bout with this. Hopefully they don't make it a shokkiri performance of hansoku with punches - I think they don't regularly show that variety at a jungyo.

Days ahead of his danpatsu shiki on the 29th, Oshima oyakata was seen at the Shoya Yaezuguchi restaurant for a charity event raising money for the victims of the Kumamoto earthquakes. While there he was serving free chanko nabe to those attending, and had his hair in chon-mage style in the hopes that the people of Kumamoto could find peace and strength while seeing him on the job. He will be down in Kumamoto on the 24th serving chanko.

Ok, I get to see very little overall, but that's the first I've seen or heard of Kokonoe-oyakata since Kitanoumi died.

Has he always kept such a low profile as a stable boss?

Thankfully it was in Tokyo and not Brussels. That city is downright filthy, and this is coming from a Greek.

Have you seen all of Brussels? I doubt it. Some parts of the city might be "filthy" but the historical centre certainly isn't, and most of the city has been renovated in recent years. And this is coming from a Belgian

Visited in 2013. Did go to the historical centre, in fact I saw as large a portion of the city I could by day, walking 5+ hours every day for 5 days. Apart from the Grand-Place and environs, the area with the many museums whose name eludes me, and a large, green cemetery adjacent to the Universite Libre near Ixelles, the city was decidedly smelly and dirty.

On the other hand, I loved Bruges and (especially) Ghent to bits. Would visit again in a heartbeat.

Having lived in Ghent for 5 years and having worked in Brussels for over 8 years, I agree that Ghent is far cleaner and has a totally different atmosphere.

Have been to Greece too (several times) and I totally loved it, my favourite spot is a restaurant in Molivos harbour on Lesbos.

Did I read somewhere that Bruges now has an underground pipeline supplying beer to various outlets?

Partly correct, a 3km undergroud pipeline connects the ancient brewery in the center of the city with another part of the brewery where the beer is bottled.
No direct supply to bars or shops...
