Akinomaki Posted June 25, 2014 Author Posted June 25, 2014 (edited) Kotooshu-oyakata visited the Kyoai Gakuen international college in Maebashi, Gunma, on the 23rd, giving a lecture as college president for a day and doing sumo and talk with kids at the associated (nursery) schools. http://www.kyoai.ac.jp/?p=10826 (several small pics of which large versions are also on the site)http://www.asahi.com/articles/ASG6R5D0PG6RUHNB00H.htmlhttp://mainichi.jp/graph/2014/06/24/20140624ddlk10050171000c/001.htmlhttp://www.tokyo-np.co.jp/article/gunma/20140624/CK2014062402000154.htmlhttp://www.jomo-news.co.jp/ns/5414036227893938/news.html Edited June 25, 2014 by Akinomaki 1
Akinomaki Posted June 28, 2014 Author Posted June 28, 2014 Kotooshu-oyakata visited Kami high school in Miyagi pref, PR for the Nakaniida jungyo basho held on Aug. 11th in Kami-town, not forgetting to attempt scouting for the heyahttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gBSXRvnbdW0http://www.kahoku.co.jp/tohokunews/201406/20140627_14026.html 3
Akinomaki Posted June 29, 2014 Author Posted June 29, 2014 Looks more like a pop star on stage:At a boat race Takanohana-oyakata had a talk show, showing his shiko training for good health: "The whole family does it." (usually he says it's enough to slowly lower his hips and keep the position like below for 30 seconds and slowly rise again).http://www.nikkansports.com/race/public_race/news/f-rc-tp1-20140629-1325862.html with the winnerhttp://www.daily.co.jp/newsflash/horse/2014/06/29/0007098831.shtml 4
Akinomaki Posted July 4, 2014 Author Posted July 4, 2014 Shikihide-oyakata and his hobby: his dream is to make a real kesho-mawashi with beads when one of his rikishi reaches makuuchi, he already made a miniature one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HJDuN2NXp6c 2
Akinomaki Posted August 7, 2014 Author Posted August 7, 2014 Kotooshu-oyakata as guest in some show on the 6th (HD) 1:07-4:35https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9bcFWRkIL-U 2
Johnofuji Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Speaking of oyakata activities.... Are there many Oyakata left who still put on their mawashi for a bit of hands on training? I know some who are too old and others are too lazy. Of course they have to put on a mawashi for the kanreki dohyō-iri at age 60. I think ex Asahifuji will be next in 6 years? I assume Futahaguro misses out for being naughty?
Benevolance Posted August 19, 2014 Posted August 19, 2014 I see lots of pics on twitter of Kaio, Musashimaru, and Shikihide-oyakata all regularly putting on the mawashi. In the case of Kaio and Musashimaru, though, they've got so few rikishi, they pretty much have to join in if the rikishi want to train with someone experienced! 1
Yubinhaad Posted January 8, 2015 Posted January 8, 2015 Former Ozeki Kotooshu made an encouragement visit yesterday to Minamisoma, which was badly affected by the 2011 earthquake and tsunami. He visited the mayor and took part in autograph and Q&A sessions with evacuees still living in temporary housing in the city's Haramachi ward. Kotooshu with Mayor Katsunobu Sakurai, who took emergency action in order to be in the same frame. Visiting evacuees. 1
I am the Yokozuna Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 He seems to have lost significant amount of weight. Great for him. Hopefully nothing health related.
krindel Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 He seems to have lost significant amount of weight. Great for him. Hopefully nothing health related. Probably not... He always looked thin for a rikishi, I am betting he actually had to make an effort to keep his fighting weight when active.

Akinomaki Posted June 25, 2015 Author Posted June 25, 2015 (edited) Naruto-oyakata visited a rehabilitation facility for the elderly in Kurashiki, Okayama, and did "torikumi" with staff members: looks more like wrestling (or sumo with kids), he has shoes and usual wear while the other is was half-ready for sumo, barefoot in underwear and a mawashi.http://www.yomiuri.co.jp/local/okayama/news/20150624-OYTNT50283.html Edit: found a video - surprisingly that channel survives for over a month already http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m5YEH4X4Up8 Edited June 25, 2015 by Akinomaki 5
