Mukonoso Posted May 20, 2013 Posted May 20, 2013 LOL, Kotooshu wins by "accident". Even better than "slippiotoshi" 2

yorikiried by fate Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Should be "Tochiozan wins" instead of Aminishiki. Stickler. Oh, and Hakuho's kimarite was tottari, not kotenage...
Doitsuyama Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 And Hakuho's kotenage was officially ruled a tottari, similar move but lower grip.

Bugman Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 (edited) A few months after i first started watching Sumo i remember that tournament directly after the scandal, the one that was just for show, and Tochinoshin did so well in it, he was on fire, what the heck happened? Sumo seems to be very fickle sometimes, with the exception of Hakuho there doesn't seem to be much consistency. Edited May 21, 2013 by Bugman
Asojima Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 A few months after i first started watching Sumo i remember that tournament directly after the scandal, the one that was just for show, and Tochinoshin did so well in it, he was on fire, what the heck happened? Sumo seems to be very fickle sometimes, with the exception of Hakuho there doesn't seem to be much consistency.Tochinoshin got himself into some disciplinary problems at his heya and was essentially banned for keiko for about 2 basho. He had been starting to show some promise. but he has been stuck in mediocity since the incident.
Washuyama Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I think Tochinoshin suffers from the same "brain vacuum" that Kotooshu and a few others deal with. Enough talent and strength to be really good, but lack of focus or whatever...
ArchangelEST Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 I think Tochinoshin suffers from the same "brain vacuum" that Kotooshu and a few others deal with. Enough talent and strength to be really good, but lack of focus or whatever... Yeah. It seems like that in so many sports. A lot of people just seem to ooze talent, it's like results come with little effort. But for some reason they cannot fully tap into that resource, it's there - but kinda out of reach. Mindset doesn't seem to be ready to fully embrace it. Every now and again they "flash" and you start thinking what the hell just happened, where did that come from. And then it's gone again. It's like a switch that's on or off. Hakuho seems to always be "ON" for example :-D

Sumo seems to be very fickle sometimes, with the exception of Hakuho there doesn't seem to be much consistency. He's had a pretty dire first ten days or so on several previous occasions when he's been ranked amongst the jo-jin - 1-9 in January 2011, 1-9 November 2011, 1-9 March 2012, 1-8 November 2012.... it's not that unusual for him. krindel Posted May 21, 2013 Posted May 21, 2013 Two funny looking coup de grace moves today, one was Chiyonokuni's shove on Ikioi who was trying to balance on one leg, sending him flying almost horizontally for a few microseconds, and the other was Yoshikaze's "Charging Bull" impersonation when he realized that Toyohibiki had stopped his own charge just short of the tawara, sending him into the audience...
