Guest scarebear Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Hi all, After reading a few posts commenting on how scarebear's performance in the recently completed basho, Scarebear can no longer BEAR to keep quite. some comments are required. Bit of history on Scarebear. Hatsu Hoshtori Basho Nagoya 1999. Has competed in 29 of the 30 basho to now. 17:last places, 5:2nd last places, 4:3rd last places 1:12th last place (2004 Natsu) 1:2-13 finish 1:3-12 finish overall 5 wins 430 losses. Worst moments in Hoshitori: 1. 3-12 finish in the Aki 2001. Major case of misreading the injuries that occured and got my first wins. The win column was no longer BEAR. (Censored) 2. Being repromoted to M16 after reaching the lowest stated rank in the rules. Might have to start a poll to gather votes for a change in the rules. Otherwise would be J29. (Nodding yes...) 3. Form from Natsu 2001 to Nagoya 2002 was unBEARable, only 1 of 8 last places, and first wins.(Sign of disapproval) 4. Old sparing partners Teletubiyama and Chiyotokiyama are no longer around. (Waving white flag...) Best moments: 1. Being 2 wins of a Shukun-sho and a 10-5 record (Natsu 2004) yet still getting 0-15. Thanks to Hokutoriki and Tokitsuumi losing on the last day. (Enjoying a beer...) 2. Also related being on top a few days of this basho. 3. Any other time in the early days when I'm in KK territory and leading the one or more of the sansho. (Clapping wildly...) 4. Finding that others enjoy watching Scarebear's daily activities.
Zuikakuyama Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Even though I dont play any sumo games, I have heard much about you. A hearty welcome. Hope life is not treating you like a bear. Or as Dave Wiggins would say, "Grandma, get out the maple syrup, its pancake time!!"
aderechelsea Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 i play a couple of games but haven't noticed you (maybe you don't play the games i do) untill i heard your name around here...... you are most welcome on this forum and i hope i will find you as an opponent in the games someday..... (Holiday feeling...)
Jesinofuji Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 Welcome to the forums. One thing I'd like to see sometime is your Hoshitori lineup. Also i've wondered if you've ever considered playing other games like Rotosumo, bench, or salarycap. I think it just might be challenging to make a losing lineup in salarycap sumo (with spending as much virtual cash as possible). ISP would also be very hard to get a last place score in. (Holiday feeling...)
Doitsuyama Posted May 26, 2004 Posted May 26, 2004 One thing I'd like to see sometime is your Hoshitori lineup. No problem. Here it is. (I would publish any asked-for lineup since they should be public anyway... well, as long as the requests don't go overboard.) Scarebear: Shimotori Hokutoriki Kotonowaka Miyabiyama Kakizoe Tokitsuumi Takamisakari Hakuho Kaiho Asanowaka Buyuzan Iwakiyama Kokkai

With rikishi picked in that order: 289 pts and a W-L record of 99-96. 109 +4 Nimonryu J1 > J2 | 1-14 | 291 96 99 | 28 4 9 110 -2 Hanpritcher J2 > J3 | 1-14 | 290 89 106 | 22 6 7 111 +7 Hinerikeri M7 > M8 | 1-14 | 289 97 98 | 30 4 9 112 -8 Datchayama M16 > J1 | 1-14 | 289 98 97 | 13 8 5 ----> here 113 +4 Pastanoyama Ke > M6 | 1-14 | 288 96 99 | 27 6 7 114 +1 Meikenonami Sw > M5 | 1-14 | 286 97 98 | 24 5 8 Interestingly, out of then 126 players, that would be a 14th from the bottom finish, only marginally better than in Hoshitori. I'm pretty sure Scarebear's Hoshitori-as-UDH result usually would be much better, but Hakuho and Hokutoriki really wrecked it. ;-) Plus Asanowaka only at 2 and Buyuzan only at 1 where they didn't earn too many points despite their 4-11 records. BTW, welcome to the forum, Scarebear! (Help me...) (Rock on...) Edited May 26, 2004 by Asashosakari
Doitsuyama Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 You can't really assume that this would be his UDH entry. The Hoshitori game has numerous extra points which have no relevance in the UDH. For example, in the UDH you don't have to "worry" about ginboshi bonuses so Scarebear would more likely take high Maegashira there.
Jesinofuji Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 Thanks for posting the lineup. I can see with Hokutoriki and Hakuho in the lineup how it could have been around the top for a while.
Asashosakari Posted May 27, 2004 Posted May 27, 2004 (edited) You can't really assume that this would be his UDH entry. Of course not. A Scarebear UDH entry would probably have Asashoryu on 6 points. (Blowing up furiously...) Edited May 27, 2004 by Asashosakari
