Yubinhaad Posted February 1, 2013 Posted February 1, 2013 I don't know if it's officially decided yet, but I did hear that Bushuyama and Takamisakari would have an intai-zumo weekend at the Kokugikan on the 5th and 6th of October.
Akinomaki Posted February 2, 2013 Posted February 2, 2013 Takamisakari will be on the dohyo in the haru jungyo in April, thelocals strongly had requested it - for the kids. Very unusual for aretired rikishi. Takamiyama took part in the Hawai jungyo in 1984 afterretiring the natsu basho just before.
Akinomaki Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 (edited) First day as a coaching oyakata in the heya, where he sat next to Azumazeki-oyakata.That heya Takamisakari name plate is may be his souvenir now.after keikoHe bought 3, 4 new ties after the lapse with the black one. Former Takamiyama urged him to remember the oyakata names and faces - even famous former ozeki he didn't recognize.oldnew suit and tiegoing to the kokugikan, where today the oyakata work assignment was announced. He is hana-michi guard, like every newly retired oyakata. Edited February 4, 2013 by Akinomaki 1
Akinomaki Posted February 4, 2013 Posted February 4, 2013 It was 1 hour of light keiko. At first he nearly said nothing,Azumazeki-oyakata urged him "If you notice something, say it to them !" - towards the end he gave some advice.Asked "With the mawashi on you feel more at ease?", he answered "Yes, but I have to get used to it."The name plate he took home with him. 1

Kuroyama Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 What cruel salesperson let him walk out of their shop in such poorly-fitted suits?
Akinomaki Posted February 5, 2013 Posted February 5, 2013 More from the first keiko - articles today focus on his TV appearance afterwardsyesterday with the failure in advances to a young HKT48 girl groupmember - all of those seemingly are forbidden to have relationships withmales, like Takarazuka members (one AKB member just shaved her head inremorse for that).
Treblemaker Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 What cruel salesperson let him walk out of their shop in such poorly-fitted suits? Seriously... These were new suits? Who was the tailor? Stevie Wonder? Omar, the tent-maker? 1
Orion Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 What cruel salesperson let him walk out of their shop in such poorly-fitted suits? It's not the tailor's fault. No rikishi looks good in his first suit after retirement; the sumo body is different from the kind of body the suit was originally meant to cover, and also, if the man has any sense, he will have started gently losing weight. In addition, moving about in a tailored suit, possibly for the first time ever, will make the fit look even worse. Orion

Orion Probably, but for large men, two - button suits are a bad idea anyway, and in any case I would assume retiring rikishi who become oyakata can at least afford a specially tailored suit to accommodate their body shape :-) . But will definitely agree with the "moving about in a suit takes practice" angle. :-)
Akinomaki Posted February 6, 2013 Posted February 6, 2013 2nd day of keiko, coaching with the new suit.On the 9th for the NHK charity sumo he has his first work as a hanamichi guard.one more of his last bout

Perhaps it's a matter of Japanese demographics. In the US it wouldn't be hard to find a good suit in roughly that size that would fit him well with a few alterations. I wouldn't be too surprised if a well-fitting suit for a Japanese man his size must be bespoke. His shirts don't even fit! That's why his tie looks untidy, quite apart from his being unpracticed at tying one. Edited February 7, 2013 by Kuroyama

That's why his tie looks untidy, quite apart from his being unpracticed at tying one. The problem with the shirt is just that he feels uncomfortable round the neck and has undone the top button. That's not really surprising for someone unused to wearing tightfitting clothes. The tie is actually done up quite well.
Jakusotsu Posted February 7, 2013 Posted February 7, 2013 LoveQuite strange they call him "oyakata" throughout instead by his name.

That's not really surprising for someone unused to wearing tightfitting clothes. The tie is actually done up quite well. A collar is not supposed to be tight. When people complain that neckties are uncomfortable, it almost always means their shirts are the wrong neck size. We're fortunate in the US that shirts come presized in a variety of sleeve length and neck size combinations, but I understand this isn't true everywhere.

I wouldn't be too surprised if a well-fitting suit for a Japanese man his size must be bespoke. I assume that he went to a well-known tailor's in Tokyo that specializes in suits for oyakata. But however good the tailoring is, as I said before, the sumo body immediately after retirement just won't look natural in an English-style suit. Orion
Akinomaki Posted February 8, 2013 Posted February 8, 2013 Furiwake-oyakata has yet another media appearance - radio this time, All night Nippon on the 18th.

Orion To be fair it's not just the Sumo body that can make a suit look a bit odd, if someone is all ribs with no shoulders they can end up looking like a parking meter with a bin-liner wrapped around it.
Treblemaker Posted February 13, 2013 Posted February 13, 2013 Orion, with appologies... He shouldn't be wearing a two-button jacket. And his sleeves are tooo long. Jacket sleeves should come down to the bottom of the wrists, to show the shirt cuffs, and never cover the base of the thumb. He's also wearing a high-waisted pant that he wears low (because of his build, yes, I know) but there are low-waisted pants that can certainly do the job. The jacket is also too tight. Even for him, with the top button done up (it's in the wrong location - should be lower), the shirt should never show through. Sorry, the jacket and pants simply aren't made right. Maybe he simply bought something off the rack? That would explain everything. And certainly he could get a shirt with his neck size...
Akinomaki Posted February 18, 2013 Posted February 18, 2013 Furiwake-oyakata getting Valentine chocolate while visiting a kindergartenwriting for kids to eradicate bullying (to be published in May)
Harry Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Even though they showed a lack of hinkaku, I always enjoyed Takamisakari's antics before, during and after his matches. He will be missed on the dohyo, has been missed for some time in makuuchi. Him in makushita without salt to throw is unimaginable. Wonder how he will do as oyakata as he is very shy. Dating an idol? Perhaps a seiyuu without a dating contract clause would be more realistic. The cast of LoveLive! Has some real cuties...
Akinomaki Posted February 20, 2013 Posted February 20, 2013 Furiwake-oyakata first time home in Aomori, Itayanagi-machi.Reporting to the town mayor, also koenkai top.
