SouthernSumo Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Hello all, Just went to my first tournament, the US Open in LA this past year. Loved it! I am a sumo fan for life now. My problem is that I live in Alabama, a very un-sumo state in a very un-sumo part of the world. It seems that most of the tournaments in this country are on the west coast which is obviously not very easy to get to for me very frequently. Does anyone have any information on tournaments on this side of the country? Sometime within weekend driving distance perhaps? I'd be very grateful for the help. I'd like to use my mawashi more than once a year. Thanks!
athelitextreme Posted January 6, 2013 Posted January 6, 2013 (edited) How far are you from Atlanta? You may want to contact the Georgia Sumo Association. I'm not sure if this information is current: Georgia Sumo Association 5165 Forest Run TraceAlpharetta, GA 30022Phone: 770-360-8900Email: packy@mindspring.com Edited January 6, 2013 by athelitextreme
SouthernSumo Posted January 9, 2013 Author Posted January 9, 2013 I'm about 2 and a half hours from it. Not too bad. I'll definitely give these guys a try. Thanks!

Shiro Posted March 15, 2013 Posted March 15, 2013 SouthernSumo, I'm from Kentucky and have also wondered this. I just can't afford to make it to California or anywhere else in the west. I ran a club in Iowa for 2 years. I didn't have a group of very serious wrestlers. We just wrestled one another in our own Tournaments and never affiliated ourselves with USSF. I would love to see some eastern tournaments start to be held, and I'd love to be involved in the putting together of some.
Asashōryū_fan Posted March 17, 2013 Posted March 17, 2013 Shiro, I'm also from Kentucky and interested in advancing amateur sumo in the eastern U.S. No real sumo background here just wrestling, judo, and general submission grappling, but some of the guys I train with would probably be interested also. Incidentally I also just subscribed to your blog.
