Doitsuyama Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 This is bad news for Toyonoshima and Aminishiki who will replace the two ozeki and probably will face the whole sanyaku now.
yorikiried by fate Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 I predict they won't match Aminishiki with Harumafuji. Gut feeling.
Asashosakari Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 Giku's also in an awkward position since, if he returns in a few days, he will have missed the "easy" part of his schedule and (probably...) still have to face his remaining 7 sanyaku opponents.

Unless they decide to use him as an overachieving-maegashira-stopper :-) .
Fukurou Posted September 12, 2012 Author Posted September 12, 2012 Day 5 East Jonidan 5 HOKUTOMORI (1-1), who did not appear on day 3, has withdrawn as of day 5.

Asashosakari Posted September 12, 2012 Posted September 12, 2012 And I might be wrong, but I think one of Jk14w Hamaobu / Jk15e Kozakura / Jk15w Kasugasato was overlooked by the Kyokai and is also kyujo...if so, probably Kasugasato. Hamaobu is the one, but even after three days the web staff still haven't noticed they've forgotten about the guy... That has finally been fixed, he's now kyujo retroactive to Day 1.
Asashosakari Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 The official word: Baruto - right big toe proximal phalanx avulsion fracture, one month Kotoshogiku - left knee MCL injury, one week
Vikanohara Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 (edited) Kotooshu looked injured as well (more than he usually does). I don't expect him to immediately step out, but he might do later after a few more defeats. Edited September 13, 2012 by Vikanohara
yorikiried by fate Posted September 13, 2012 Posted September 13, 2012 After seeing the available footage: If he comes back tomorrow, I will eat your panties.

specialweek 2 Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 3 Ozeki kyujo in same basho. Any ideas when that last happened?
shumitto Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 He will be Kadoban for a 5th time in his career - in case he does not return - and this is the first time since 2001 (Aki) 3 Ozeki sit out.
ChrisC Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 Osh's out. Man, I was looking forward to YBF's video. Seriously though, that's a real shame. What an awful injury.
Fukurou Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 Osh's out. Now confirmed on the NSK website.

What is unprecedented is that the next banzuke will feature three kadoban Ozeki (barring the possibility of a sudden intai or an unlikely return of the Geek).
Fukurou Posted September 14, 2012 Author Posted September 14, 2012 Day 7 For once, it's not an ozeki withdrawing: East Jonidan 23 CHIKARAYAMA (2-1) has withdrawn as of day 7.
Koorifuu Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 We gotta plan some popcorn for the Kadoban Party in November.
Harry Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 With 3/6 ozeki kadoban I think we will have hit critical mass, not enough wins in the OBSC to ensure that all get their kachikoshi. Who will fall back to sekiwake for the chance at repromotion? Osh could...
krindel Posted September 14, 2012 Posted September 14, 2012 I think there's no way any of the 3 kadoban ozeki will fail to get KK in November, assuming they are healthy. Despite some of them (Kotooshu mainly) having been consistently incosistent, there is a huge difference in power between the ozeki and most of everyone else for them to gather 8 loses if fighting for their rank.

Despite some of them (Kotooshu mainly) having been consistently incosistent, there is a huge difference in power between the ozeki and most of everyone else for them to gather 8 loses if fighting for their rank. I mostly agree with this. Despite the abundance of ozekis all of them get KKs 97% (rounded up number, TL2Q) of the time because the difference is abysmal, even if Osh's mind tends to drift away from the dojo he's still an exceptionally capable competitor. Anyone ranked below ozeki is fodder for those... unless you're named Myogiryu or Goeido, and we all know the thorns to the ozeki dominance are constantly changing like trends. However, despite the low chance anyone gets demoted there's no denying it all makes for a much more thrilling basho.
