I think Hakuho would love to have a Yokozuna rival like Harumafuji, but Ex-Ama is just too clever to take the offer.

And I think you're right. But... Even if HF had thoughts on the matter of moving up, I just don't think he's got the body for it. I honestly think it'll be between Baruto and Kise, giving the former the immediate nod,

I think HF knows which side his bread is buttered on.

The problem for any of them wanting to move up is that they have to Yusho twice which I can't see happening while Hak is in the mix. He's simply that much better than all the rest. He'll have to get injured before anyone else gets a chance at two Yushos in a row.

If that were to happen, out of the six current Ozeki it's hard to know who would be most likely as they all have weaknesses. Discounting Osh and Kak for now (for obvious reasons) the other four all have a chink in their armour.

Both Bart and Giku are too one dimensional and not adaptable enough. Bart relies too much on his size, and Giku on the bumpty-bump. Anyone who knows how to target their weaknesses can get to them.

HF and Kise have the skills but both also have mental weknesses. HF can't string two good bashos together (and needs to be a bit bigger), while Kise chokes under pressure. If I had to pick one of the current Ozeki I'd bet Kise, because I think he is the one who seems to be gradually improving while the rest are static. But, I'd bet the next Yokozuna comes from outside the current crop of Ozeki - either Myogiryu or one of the younger up and comers

Good for Takanoyama. He really needed a bit of good luck to shine his way. Though not as much as Kyokutenho of course.

Nice win Takanoyama! Too bad about Kotooshu. I'd really like to see him win a basho again. At least one more time.

Nice win Takanoyama! ...

My initial reaction to this comment was, "Huh?" That looked every bit like a good old Aran-esque Henka. And I thought, what good is it to develop all those really cool, chick-magnet muscles if all you're going to do is the Time Warp Again.... (Except to the left... Some of you will know what I mean...)

Then I took a frame-by-frame look, and it wasn't a henka in the structest sense but a beautifully timed lunge for the right arm. This was a move worthy of Mainoumi.

Maybe they could wrap a diver's belt around Taka's waist to give him more ballast?

Late edit: Was anyone keeping count of the number of henkas? Day 12 alone, I lost count at 8... I think there should be another sumo game: Total number of Makuuchi Henkas/Basho. Sort of an Over/Under game. The person with the closest score gets a 7-day trip to Alaska in December and a year's supply of sardines. The runner up gets a two-week trip and 2 year's supply of braised Rocky Mountain Oysters.

I agree. He was so quick that Ikioi never knew what hit him

The winner must board the plane from the side, of course. And quickly eat from the the plate of the guy sitting next to him. And look apologetic at all times.

Kisenosato will be called to the referee department before the bout on day 13 to get a reprimand for bad tachi-ai. His hands were repeatedly not down on day 12 and he ignored the head shimpan who cautioned him from below the dohyo.

Please explain to me :

"Masunoyama playing with the big boys for the first time" ???

Tamaasuka's fall was rather funny to see. I wasn't fearing for any injury there.

Then I had more fear when I saw Yoshikaze going down head first on day 9.

And I especially liked that yorikirimfffnnngg. :-P

It's really the first time he faces a sanyaku regular like Houmashou, and he was his highest ranked opponent ever.. He had only 4 bouts when he first came up in September 2011 and was injured, and this basho he has been fighting with the lower rankers, those ranked in his neighborhood. Hence, the 'big boys".

And rightly so. His antics against Baruto were disgusting, and he even got away with a win.

I agree, it was very disatisfying to watch and Kise did not deserve that win. (in my opinion)

Wow, Takanoyama's match was like a replay of yesterday with an arm grab. I'm happy for him but is it really sumo? Or is he reverting to his judo days out of desperation to win the rest of his matches?
