Kintamayama Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 (edited) The 36th Ozumo one-day knock-out tournament was held today at the KKan. Hakuhou won it for the third time, showing some hearty techniques like yobimodoshi (against Myougiryuu)and tsukaminage ( against Takanoyama, a technique not see in the sekitori bouts in honbasho since 1957..). He then beat Kisenosato in the semis with uwatenage, and beat Goueidou (who beat him in the semis last time) by kakenage after being morozashied and pushed to the edge. Purse-2,500,000 yen. "If that would have happened during a hon-basho I would have lost.. I'll use this as a springboard to regain the yusho in Haru" he said later. Baruto lost in the quarterfinals to Toyonoshima, who buried himself in Baruto's body and pushed him out. "My tachiai was lame.. I was wondering what to do.. I may have been overzealous in my effort to win the tournament. Anyhow, shonichi will be a fresh start.." he said. "I was three millimeters from those 2,500,000 yen.." lamented Goueidou. The tsukaminage against Takanoyama (Hey, looks like he donned his golden mawashi for the tournament..): The kakenage against Goueidou: Hakuhou receiving the cup and what looks like a gigantic parking ticket (by the look on his face) from Oguruma Oyakata: Edited February 5, 2012 by Kintamayama 1
Washuyama Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 I wish Hakuho would wear that gold/yellow mawashi more often...
Yubinhaad Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Admittedly, I've never seen either of them, but doesn't it look more like yaguranage? 1
Kaioshoryu Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Love it when someone uses a rarely seen technique! Hope Hakuho can use some rare stuff during the next basho...
Asojima Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Admittedly, I've never seen either of them, but doesn't it look more like yaguranage? It depends on Takanoyama's direction of travel. If he is moving forward, it is yaguranage. If backward, tsukaminage.
Kuroyama Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 Admittedly, I've never seen either of them, but doesn't it look more like yaguranage? It depends on Takanoyama's direction of travel. If he is moving forward, it is yaguranage. If backward, tsukaminage. And if skyward, omigoshinage. 1
Asojima Posted February 5, 2012 Posted February 5, 2012 And if skyward, omigoshinage. If straight down, oshitanage. :-)
Kintamayama Posted February 5, 2012 Author Posted February 5, 2012 8303 spectators. "I hoped to face him.. It was fun. We faced each other at keiko, but the atmosphere here was different. It was a great learning experience. I'd love to face him at honbasho. To that end, I will be gambarizing even more at keiko!!" said Takanoyama after his bout with the Yokozuna. 2

Mukonoso Posted February 12, 2013 Posted February 12, 2013 Admittedly, I've never seen either of them, but doesn't it look more like yaguranage? Whatever it is, it looks very painful.
