Must have been contagious - right knee ACL injury for Hokutokuni, suffered in his bout against Kokkai of all people, two weeks required. Return possible, says Hakkaku-oyakata.

It's after 2PM (JT) on Thursday. I suspect if Kokkai and/or Tamawashi were withdrawing from day 12, it would have been on the NSK site by now. I'm going to bed now.

(watch - in the morning I'll find out one or both *did* withdraw from day 12...)

Oops, there's Kokkai, heavily bandaged but he's there..

Lost, hopping on one leg, limping up the hanamichi.

Day 13

Withdrawing and Returning - and not totally who you'd expect.

Withdrawing:

West Makushita 52 MASUTOO (3-3)

Returning:

East Juryo 11 HOKUTOKUNI (4-7-1, absent from day 11)

I only reported it twice.

Though I must admit I expected Kokkai to withdraw as well. He'll probably do tomorrow ?

And I also thought Tamawashi would have been at least damaged, though he looked ok.

I think the unexpected part is Hokutokuni's quick return, rather.

Hokutokuni's possible return had also been mentioned. For me, the unexpected part was Kokkai still not withdrawing, especially after Kintamayama's description of him on day 12.

Day 13 Late

A rather strange (to me) late withdrawal.

There must be something about J11 this basho - Juryo tri-leader West Juryo 11 AMURU (10-2) is withdrawing as of day 13. If he was injured during his day 12 loss to Kotoyuki (oshidashi) it must have happened off camera - he turned his body to be going forward as he stepped off the dohyo to the floor (apparently under control), then the remainder of the video is focused on Kotoyuki (you don't see Amuru go back onto the dohyo to bow to the winner).

Amuru was scheduled to face fellow tri-leader Chiyotairyu this day (Sotairyu is the 3rd tri-leader).

(this is all Jakusotsu's fault)

Could be his knee as Kotoviki, our agent in Moscow Tokyo, mentioned in the Pick The Yusho Winners thread:

Amuru was indeed a good pick!! I am glad he is doing so well, even though I picked Ikioi... but Amuru is still injured with his left knee. He has ice on it and taped up while he is doing anything except keiko. He can't even bend it fully so I worried about him... but I'm so happy for him!! I should have picked him anyway but spending a day with him a few days before the basho even he worried about his knee so... I did too!

Amuuru-right knee front ligament something-4 weeks to recuperate. He will not be returning this basho, said his Oyakata. "He was doing so well so it is regrettable,"said Ounomatsu.

After day 14 is over, I think it's safe to say Chiyonokuni did not show up for his bout today-shoulder dislocation - kyujo- two weeks rest.

Looks like Hokutokuni's injury only made him stronger. (Whistling...)

And Kokkai also managed to at least win once more after. (Neener, neener...)

Thanks to everyone for keeping this updated.

Tochinonada was a no show for his Day 15 match with Homarefuji, and he is not listed on the NSK site as kyujo. Intai??

His page on http://sumo.goo.ne.jp/eng says (retired)

And he's on the Intai List on the Japanese side. Since this thread will be locked soon, the discussion of Tochinonada's intai is here.
