ronnie Posted September 26, 2011 Posted September 26, 2011 Wednesday morning (at five o'clock as the day begins) at the latest, since the Banzuke committee convenes then to make the new Banzuke. Will the news be a note that they hoped would say more? They'll be meeting a man from the motor trade, I hear. I would think that would on Friday morning at nine o'clock.
Kofuji Posted September 30, 2011 Author Posted September 30, 2011 Unfortunately Jack had to tear down our servers last night at our temporary location in his neighbour's garage, bad back and all. We will be off line until October 8th or 9th when his move is completed. Jack tells me the new place has hot fiber (40 meg up, 10 meg down) and will be ready to plug into when they arrive. He has static IPs ready to go. Sorry for the lack of notice, but we weren't expecting to have to remove them from their current location for a week.

I feel like I'm living in a 3rd world country!
Asameshimae Posted October 6, 2011 Posted October 6, 2011 (edited) It's back!!! And gone again. For quite an extended amount of time. I read that we should check here for updates about sumoreference, so any updates newer than September 18th as the site/server appears to be down? Edited October 6, 2011 by Asanomeshi

I hope the move went well and looking forward to the return of sumoreference.com. It is one of my favorite stops when I'm online. Thanks for the update and providing such a wonderful reference site.
kuroimori Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 And it is back!!! Otsukare & Thanks to Kofuji-zeki and all the unsung migrators.
Kofuji Posted October 11, 2011 Author Posted October 11, 2011 Jack got the server plugged in a few hours ago and since we knew IP numbers in advance, most of the sumogames services are back on line including www.sumoreference.com. Because it's a noisy beast, we're keeping the server that serves the older games off line for now and may until a week before the basho. If time permits I will try to migrate the games to a platform that will work on the new server. Otherwise, we'll give our host time to wire his garage so they don't have to put up with the noise in the house.
shumitto Posted October 11, 2011 Posted October 11, 2011 Thank you ! With sumo reference off I've come to realize how important a part of my sumo interest this database actually is.
Kofuji Posted October 12, 2011 Author Posted October 12, 2011 Jack moved the servers to the garage yesterday, so both are now available. He says they're now GREEN computers as they will keep the garage above freezing in the winter with the amount heat they output.
Kofuji Posted November 14, 2011 Author Posted November 14, 2011 We seem to have a problem with the older server that looks after BenchSumo, ChainGang, ISP, RotoSumo and Sekitori-Toto. I lost contact with it while I had a Remote Desktop session open. It is not responding to web requests. This server also runs the program that does the data gathering, although it can be run on the other machine if necessary. I've Skyped our host. Apparently there's some recabling going on with Direct TV installation so hopefully things will return to normal soon.

I'll be at school all day and it is 4am now.. I may be able to get on from the school's computer if I can sneak about it before the deadlines for Bench and ISP. I can't get into sumo forum though... so would it be possible for you to post me a message to facebook or send me an email to vikicody@ezweb.ne.jp when it is back up so I can try to get my picks in on time. I'm sorry to ask but I just usually don't go near a computer til 10pm or so when I get home. Now off to bed for 3 hours sleep! Yikes!
Kofuji Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 We seem to have lost connectivity to the servers. It's 1AM in Molalla so I'm assuming it's either an ISP reconfig or a power failure. If it's a power failure hopefully the servers will reboot first time. We've been having some trouble with the older one needing a manual kick. If we need a manual intervention it will be about 6 hours before it occurs.
Kotoviki Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 I finally got into Sumo Forum even though there was nothing wrong with it..just me :-) But tonight it is Sumo games.. I'm not having any luck! midnight and they are still down...
Andonishiki Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 We got about 13h left till 14:00 Japan time... Is there a good chance that the server will go online again ? Any ETA ? If not, should we post our day 9 stuff here ? Anyone who can pick the ISP match?

Randomitsuki Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 Sumoreference is back at the moment, but sumogames isn't. Does it need an extra kick?
Kofuji Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 The older server had been kicked multiple times and it's not getting more than 2 green lights out of 4 so far ... Still working on it. Was a power failure.
Andonishiki Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 hooray !! thanks so much :-) god save the energy in moballa.... where is this holy place at all?? kofuji.... if there`s anything u can think of to avoid such failure in the future, pls let us know. You`re the man, so your advice will be trusted ! I`m sure some of us are able to contribute to a stable solution (also financially !) for all the fun we have with these games, I`m very willing to invest in a stable server environment. pls send me a private message, if u like thanks & cheers Andonishiki
Doitsuyama Posted November 20, 2011 Posted November 20, 2011 god save the energy in moballa.... where is this holy place at all?? Just enter Molalla (not Moballa...) in Google Maps, there seems to be only the one. I`m sure some of us are able to contribute to a stable solution (also financially !)for all the fun we have with these games, I`m very willing to invest in a stable server environment. No privacy needed, advertising for server funding is on many sumogame sites, for example on the Bench Sumo login page. Just click on the Paypal button. Ok, without a Paypal option a private talk with Kofuji might be needed.
Kofuji Posted November 20, 2011 Author Posted November 20, 2011 The machines are on UPS but I guess the power was off long enough for the machines to shut down. The environment we're on right now is probably as stable as we're going to find without going to a commercial solution. I don't think the funding is there for that. In the 12 years or so we've been running, Jack or I have financed replacement servers and the connection. I think one of the servers did basically get paid for by the sumo games community. The main problem now is that Windows 2008 and IIS7 do not support the technology I wrote a bunch of the games in a decade ago. We are in the process of trying to port them to .NET and the new server. I'm hoping I can get ChainGang finished before the end of the basho so we can kick at the new version for a few days live while still having the old one running.
