Shibata-gumi Posted May 7, 2011 Posted May 7, 2011 So just saw the banzuke for this un-basho, does anyone know why there are spots blank M15E and yet they still have some of the forced retired rikishi on the banzuke? Any help appreciated, just curious.

Any help appreciated, just curious. As reported elsewhere, those are the spots "un-occupied" by Hoshikaze and Soukokurai, the only dismissed rikishi who refused to hand in their retirement papers, which would have had them acknowledging their guilt. The Kyokai retaliated by saying they were banished (Kokkai kokai), and as such, don't deserve to be mentioned on the Banzuke or some such explanation. They decided to tough it out in court. We'll see about that.
Vikanohara Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 Had the same question, so I'm glad to find the explanation already. (Neener, neener...)

What that means? Best Regards, Achiyama
Yubinhaad Posted May 12, 2011 Posted May 12, 2011 My question is:In the Makushita Banzuke Meigetsuin is placed between Ms15 and Ms16, and in the Rank column is written TD. What that means? The TD stands for Tsukedashi, a special rank granted to a collegiate sumo champion who won one of four qualifying events. Which event Meigetsuin won will have to be answered by others. Winning two of the four events earns the man a slightly higher spot, Td10.

tzutzy Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) I couldn't find info on the scandal that lead to the dismissal of so many rikishi (I must say I didn't look too hard, but I did try). Does anyone have a link, or maybe can summarise in a few words what happened? I haven't been following sumo for a while now I see a basho has been skipped (due to earthquake?) and also lots of retirements so I'm a bit curious :) Thanks. Edited May 30, 2011 by tzutzy
Jakusotsu Posted May 30, 2011 Posted May 30, 2011 I haven't been following sumo for a while . . . Adrian, is that you? Long time no see. (I am not worthy...)
tzutzy Posted July 3, 2011 Posted July 3, 2011 Yes, long time no see :) I was still following the sumo mailing list but that email address got deleted, then life took over... as it always does. I've been following bits and pieces on and off. Hopefully I will have more time to dwell on these forums. I can see lots of familiar names - oh the memories! hehe Thanks for the welcome
