Sashohitowa Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Honestly, I don't see the reason for polling that. Is the cancelation of basho(s) matter of oppinion, or it is kind of game of guessing? Still, I personally think that Natsu will be cancelled as well, because of the time needed for the investigation.
Gusoyama Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 They'll come up with some excuse for holding Natsu. They can't afford to miss what amounts to 1/3 of their yearly income. They'll zap the guys who are proven guilty or who are stupid enough to admit it, then say they're "keeping a close eye on competition" for Natsu or some such.
Harry Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Instead of Guess The Banzuke we can play Guess The Basho :D Instead of Guess The Yusho Winners we can have Guess The Yaocho Winners
Jakusotsu Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Or Guess The Next Scandal. That might even score more hits in 2011 than Guess The Next Basho.
Peterao Posted February 16, 2011 Author Posted February 16, 2011 Just a reminder: this question is regarding when you think that the basho will resume, not when you want them to resume (which, to me, is what the current reflect as the understanding...)

Jakusotsu Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 If you are unhappy with the results, why didn't you design the poll like this? To quote world-famous philosopher Dr. Alban: "We don't want no poll-ution!"
Flohru Posted February 17, 2011 Posted February 17, 2011 Just a reminder: this question is regarding when you think that the basho will resume, not when you want them to resume (which, to me, is what the current reflect as the understanding...) If you are unhappy with the results, why didn't you design the poll like this? I have no emotional investment in this poll. I'm just surprised that people are apparently this optimistic. Common, you are following the news media pretty closely: how many articles about the scandal were published this week compared to the last? Next week it will be even less and in two weeks there won't be any new articles anymore. Natsu will take place for sure (if YOU like it or not) and there won't be many public complaints about it. IMHO the reason why they announced the investigation to need at least 6 months simply is that by August everyone will have forgotten about the scandal, so there won't be any necessity for further punishments or changes by then. It's the nice, old, always working delay-strategy and has nothing to do with a serious commitment to investigate and possibly cancel further bashos.

Next week it will be even less and in two weeks there won't be any new articles anymore. Actually, I think there were more stories this week than last. The weeklies are just beginning to jump in, and I've seen no drying up of the opinion articles. If the Kyokai knew anything about crisis management, they would get all the skeletons out in the open as quickly as possible. But the news just keeps dribbling out a little at a time, and the news and opinion sites know that these articles generate clicks, so they will keep pumping them out. Natsu will take place for sure (if YOU like it or not) and there won't be many public complaints about it. I reserve the right to come back here and say "Neener neener!" to you if that proves false. (Shaking head...)
Gusoyama Posted February 18, 2011 Posted February 18, 2011 (edited) I have no emotional investment in this poll. I'm just surprised that people are apparently this optimistic. See my post above. Regardless of the public opinion, the Kyokai can not afford to miss more than 1 basho. The "2 months for investigation" is the same "2 months to heal" that every rikishi seems to report. Natsu will happen, people will move on, yaocho will still happen but the guys will be more careful about it. Then you can return to under your bridge and await the next time you see some punch bowls unattended. In other words: Edited February 18, 2011 by Gusoyama

ryafuji Posted April 8, 2011 Posted April 8, 2011 What on earth are you doing? It is taking place - the yusho and all rikishi records will count. You were wrong, mate.

All matches count the same, all yusho will be recorded the same, and people will watch the same matches under the same rules as a normal basho. Totally not trolling at all.

Kintamayama Posted April 9, 2011 Posted April 9, 2011 (edited) Being for all intents and purposes a honbasho is still not the same as actually being a honbasho. Lame semantics. You tried to eat the cake and keep it whole. You tried to be all views, omnipotent - but it doesn't work. No credit, as you have no money in the bank of facts. Anyone can see that, except you, per usual. Edited April 9, 2011 by Kintamayama

Anyone can see that, except you, per usual. Duh. Did I miss something here? We who are living in Ryogoku, an eight-minute walk from the Kokugikan, are still licking our wounds. A two-minute walk from my apartment, an old family house was demolished today because it was no longer safe to live in. My own young landlord (I've known him since he was just starting primary school) has, according to a lady on the 5th floor, been around and intends to fill up the big cracks we have all noticed in our bathrooms and elsewhere. We are congratulating ourselves on living in a building whose frames basically withstood this quake (even after being subjected to incredible changes in relativity). Apologies for uneven line turns --- it's the software not me... Doreen

More power to you. Court jester of the Sumo forum is not something to be frowned upon. And you, sir, are the emperor with no clothes. You long ago admitted you were wrong and agreed with me on the "maybe" thing that you keep working into your act, and both the Kyokai and the NHK agree that this is not a "honbasho", the very specific event that this poll asked about. Hardly "lame semantics", sir, no matter how humorously you spew your wrath. This is not Bench Sumo. You do not win by virtue of having the biggest mouth.
Sashohitowa Posted April 10, 2011 Posted April 10, 2011 Natsu will take place for sure (if YOU like it or not) and there won't be many public complaints about it. I think Flohru can never be right about that. No matter what, there will be many public complaints about it. All of them from Peterao. Peterao, I really cannot understand your general position (except this desire to be "right" and to "win" every conversation). On one side you say that NSK is the enemy and should be reformed, but on another side you need more rikishi to be penalized. And you are genuinely upset by the fact that there will be a sumo event in the comming months -- I must say that if you love sumo, then you do it in a quite sadistic way.

I leave you, at the risk of being repetitive, with this thought: Let's be honest: this is the 2011 Natsu Basho. All of the things that supposedly make this not a basho are window dressing.
