Flohru Posted February 10, 2011 Posted February 10, 2011 Worst ever? I don't get why it is so important to some people at all if it is the worst ever problem or not? Anyway a clear "no" for various reason, one of which being the fact that everyone knowing a little bit about sumo knew about yaocho existing. Now the mass media usually neglecting sumo more or less altogether have proof for its existence, so what? We will enjoy reading good or bad stories about sumo in places where we haven't read anything about it before, we will see some rikishi/oyakata getting dismissed, one basho cancelled, some pro forma action taken by the NSK and Peterao doubling his number of Forum posts. In 6 months everything will be forgotten and we will be back at enjoying sumo.

Chankosan Posted February 16, 2011 Posted February 16, 2011 Yes, worst ever. This scandal has to do with what goes on inside the dohyo, not outside. So it is a difference in kind, not just in degree. THAT is why it is the worst ever. (And I want to add Taiho et al smuggling pistols into Japan for the yakuza on their way back from an overseas jungyo in the 1960s to the outside-the-dohyo list!)
