Soukokurai and Hoshikaze have been wiped off the un-banzuke, it was reported earlier today. The other rikishi who were fired and handed in their resignations remain on the un-banzuke.

How can you wipe someone off something which doesn't even exist, even virtually?.. Especially in these times the Kyokai website could definitely be more up to snuff.

I think it's more of a "we'll show them" thing.. It's being reported on all sports news sites prominently.

Actually, on the Kyokai site's banzuke (there is one), they are both gone.

Actually, on the Kyokai Japanese website, there are banzukes for all the categories (for example Makushita1), we need somebody to translate it! (Takanoyama at Ms2e !!!) (Sign of approval...)

In fact, they are not only gone, they are listed as "dismissed" !

Today the korean Kasugao has visited Todoroki Stadium, in Kawasaki, with rikishi of the Kasugayama-Beya. He met the players of Kawasaki J1 team and he said he hasn't specific projects for the future. "After 13 years career, I wanna take a break only"...

I have officially joined the getting bigger every day Sokokurai Supporter's club. On Shonichi everyone who knows him was kinda recruited in. There will be another big meeting/dinner on June 4th so if anyone is in Tokyo area and wants to come to it you can!!!

Count me in! I'm not a fan of Sokokurai's particularly, but the whole procedure stinks.

I'll be singing in a big choral concert that day but please keep me posted. I have always had a high opinion of him and I still have.

Would love to, but I'm in New York. Count me in, in spirit. I always loved this guy from the first day he entered sumo. (Sign of approval...)

As Kinta mentioned elsewhere, the results of the mobile phone analysis will be made public after today's action - new mails related to yaocho were reportedly found. It's not known yet on whose phone these messages were found, but FWIW among the three phones handed in were those of Jumonji and Kyokunankai. A non-shikona name was supposedly mentioned in these messages, so (given the usual privacy caveats) nobody's even hinting at who it is that will be fingered later today.

(Disclaimer: Everything from a single Chunichi Sports report. They've been pretty reliable with their scoops from what I've seen, but we know how much this story can mutate in 12 hours.)

Now "people close to the investigation' are saying nothing new was found and the investigation is coming to a close, together with the committee.

The Investigation committee handed in their final report today at the rijikai. "The dismissed rikishi did not get together and invent something new. This problem (yaocho) has deep roots," was the thing that stood out the most. Rijicho and everyone else has been denying the existence of past yaocho vehemently till now. "Starting with the Riji and Oyakata of the past, all those in charge that did not make any serious effort to prevent this should understand their heavy responsibility," added the statement. The rijicho who has always denied the existence of yaocho was put in an awkward situation. "Yes, the report says that, but since I can't prove anything, the only answer I have is that it didn't exist" he said. Still, the Kyokai accepted the report's findings, so they may yet have to face the past problems eventually.

Thank heavens the committee didn't chicken out from including that. I was about to post in the other thread that holding Nagoya basho isn't really decided until the Ministry of Etc. give them the go-ahead, but this should be enough to get them to do it.

I kinda doubt that we'll see significant investigations into the past. Leaving aside the 7-7 and ozeki back-scratching stuff which really needs to be addressed in other ways (scheduling, different incentives, etc.), I think everyone's kinda sated with the revelations about the last few years, and won't really care to go into e.g. the first half of the last decade. Beyond that you're in the 1990s that were dominated by said-to-be 100% gachinko Futagoyama-beya which is probably "good enough" for many people even if there was yaocho (other than 7-7) lower down, and going beyond that into the Chiyonofuji era you really start to need historians, not investigators.

Sure enough, Minister Takaki was not impressed. " First of all, I'd like to see a full report on how the Kyokai is planning to prevent this from happening again and what exactly has been done so far. Then, I will examine said report, and see how we proceed.. In the end though, holding or not holding the basho is ultimately the Kyokai's decision," he said. OTOH, he was impressed by the rikishi achievements in May. "They were seriously going at it and gambarizing. I saw a lot of spirited bouts!" he enthused. "We did all we promised to do. Everyone saw the May test basho. I feel there are no obstacles left towards holding Nagoya." said the rijicho himself.

Yeah, right, this is the Ministry of Education we're talking about here, no? That is widely regarded as being at the bottom of the bureaucracy pile? while the Gaimusho (Foreign Ministry) thinks it's right at the top? Well, I work indirectly for the Gaimusho and I have to say that at present it is in the hands of men who think their English is the world's best. Needless to say, being English made-in-Japan, it isn't. But this is a professional problem and I will deal with it in my own way. But I have serious doubts about anything that comes out of the Min. of Education in any way, shape or form.

"He will not hand in his retirement notification. He is adamant. If he gets banished, he will hold a press conference!" said Arashio Oyakata of Soukokurai. "I deny everything. I will not hand it in!" reiterated the man himself. "He knows if he gets banished he's giving up his retirement money. But once that happens, he no longer belongs to the heya or the Kyokai and is free to do as he wishes. He is planning on opening a website where he will air his grievances. He is discussing his next step with his lawyer," said someone who knows. He also plans to send a written report to the the Sinistry of Etc. stating point of view.

Soukokurai has been living at Arashio beya since the banishment, training with the young guys at times. He intends to go to Nagoya with the heya as well. "I've been moving my body somewhat.. ". He has reached an agreement with the Kyokai, something around 1,300,000

And he's even posted up as an "assistant instructor" on the heya roster now, more or less making his continued stay in the heya official as he waits for the lawsuit to progress. (It should be going ahead sometime this week.)

"The shisho and I talked about it and decided on this as my shikona cannot be listed as 'makuuchi' because of the discharge," Sokokurai explained. He's donning his white sekitori mawashi when training with the young guys.

Ex-Hoshikaze is the next one to reach a temporary agreement with the Kyokai until litigation ends. "I think you can all imagine what sums we are talking about here.." said his lawyer. It should become official on the 22nd when the court will reconvene to decide. "Everything is as usual for me, although I cannot train.." said Hoshikaze, sporting a ponytail.

I must confess that until this moment I was really believing that Kyokai's lawer's name is Ben Goshi. :)

Your puns are really first-class, Moti. This one lasted for me 5 years -- I wonder what else is to be expected :-P
