good day all,

the 2010 prize was sent to Konrad who should be receiving it shortly.

and now that the banzuke is out, it's time to invite you all to the easiest picking game of them all because your picks last a whole year!

here's how it works.

the torch will start with the last rikishi and last rank on the 2011 HATSU BANZUKE. this rikishi/rank will pass the torch to whoever defeats him during the tournaments (torch match). your task is to pick one rank and one rikishi that you think will end up with the most points throughout the year's six bashos.

THROUGHOUT THE YEAR:

3 points for every torch match your chosen rikishi wins.

3 points for every torch match your chosen rank wins.

1 point for every torch match your chosen rikishi loses.

1 point for every torch match your chosen rank loses.

THEN AT THE END OF THE 2011 KYUSHU BASHO:

25 points if you get the final torch holding rikishi.

25 points if you get the final torch holding rank.

OR (if the exact rank and/or rikishi is not chosen by a participant)...

10 points if you are closest to the final torch holding rikishi.

10 points if you are closest to the final torch holding rank.

PLUS SOME BONUS POINTS FOR THOSE WHO GET CLOSE TO THE FINAL TORCH POSITION:

10 points if your chosen rikishi is one position from the final torchholder, 9 points if two positions, 8 if three positions... and so on down to 1 point.

10 points if your chosen rank is one position from the final torchholder, 9 points if two positions, 8 if three positions... and so on down to 1 point.

the player with the most points at the end of the year will get a prize.

for historical reference, here's where the torch ended up the last three years:

2006, J2w

2007, Ms33w (highest position J7w)

2008, J7e (highest position J6w)

2009, J5e (highest position J3e)

2010, Ms58e (highest position J3e)

please submit:

1) the name of the rikishi you think will get the most points between now and the end of the 2011 KYUSHU BASHO.

and

2) the rank of the rikishi you think will get the most points between now and the end of the KYUSHU BASHO.

deadline for entries is the sunday, january 9th... JST. send entries to shimodahito@yahoo.com or post on sumoforum or sumotalk.

the "wildcard" pick, by default will be the lowest rikishi and rank on the HATSU BANZUKE-

i've already received a few entrees. thanks.

good luck! so easy...one rank pick, one rikishi pick.

while most games have closed. i'm very generous on this once-a-year game.... you still have time to get your picks in.

doitsuyama, one of my top 5 sumo forum favorites, is quoted as saying: "This might be the silliest sumo "games" I have ever seen and I have seen them all." ..... join the silliness. i welcome it. and our 2010 austrian winner is very happy with his prize.
