A new poll for 2011!

Let's turn our eyes to Baruto's fortunes.... Is he ready to make the step upwards to Yokozuna? Will he drop from Ozeki?

Please put your predictions in the comments below, so we can see who is closest at the end of the year.

I say O1E, five bashos with 10+ wins and 3 Jun-yushos (no yushos, sadly). So a good year, but (due to Hakuho), not a breakout year.

Here goes a shot of optimism... Y1W, 5, 3. Hell get his first yusho, a yusho-doten loss to Hakuho which will get Bart the promotion and another Jun-yusho for good measure,

Other two-thirds of us think that Baruto will be ranked as a high Ozeki (O1E or O1W). About 17% of us think that is his year to get promoted to Yokozuna.

We (well, over half of us) think that he will have 5 bashos where he justifies his rank (at least 10 wins).

About three-quarters of us think that he will be a yusho contender (getting at least a Jun-yusho) in 2 or 3 bashos this year.

Baruto's record over 2011 was as follows...

Jan - 9-6

Mar - basho cancelled

May - 10-5

July - 11-4

Sep - 10-5

Nov - 11-4

He will be ranked at O1E in January 2012. This was predicted by 39% (the biggest vote).

In 4 bashos he achieved at least 10 wins (as expected of an Ozeki) - adjusted to 5 to account for the cancelled basho. This was predicted by over half of us.

He didn't get a single Yusho or Jun-Yusho ('adjusted' to zero) - as predicted by just 3 of us (13%).

Looking at the comments, I think I can award Jejima (First prize...) the win for this poll.... (First prize...)
