One of our Forum members has been translating Futabayama's autobiography. Unfortunately, professional considerations have put the project on hold for now. but below is an excerpt describing Futabayama' s early days in sumo.

I was taken to practice on the very first day I joined the world of sumo (in March 1927). I was made to put on a mawashi, and do a couple of keiko (training) sessions. To my shock, I beat out all my senior stablemates. Being a small boy, I was feeling like I was on top of the world and thought,
