On Day 14 Kisenosato will face M8E Tamawashi. The bandwagon pick of Toynoshima with 10 selections failed while the minibandwagon for Tamawashi started by Jakusotsu did. We are down to a lead group of two for the final day. Kotoviki and Asashosakari are invited to make early picks to see which bandwagon we should be on.

Yaochoyama (Y1E 5-9) Y1

O1 Profomisakari (O1W 7-7)

Jakusotsu (S1E 8-6) S1 Gernobono (S1W 8-5-1)

Maguroyama (S2E 6-8) S2 Jejima (S2W 7-7)

Kotoviki (K1E 10-4) K1 Hidariashiyama (K1W 9-4-1)

Asashosakari (M1E 10-4) M1 Holleshoryu (M1W 6-8)

Kuroimori (M2E 8-5-1) M2 Chisaiyama (M2W 8-6)

Oshirokita (M3E 9-3-2) M3 XiaoTan (M3W 9-5)

Kofuji (M4E 7-6-1) M4 Kameumi (M4W 3-10-1)

Andonishiki (M5E 8-6) M5

Mae-zumo

Shimodahito (mz 6-6-2)

Kisenosato's aites: 1. O1W Baruto, 2. Y1E Hakuho, 3. O2E Harumafuji, 4. O2W Kaio, 5. O1E Kotooshu, 6. S1E Tochiozan, 7. S1W Kakuryu, 8. M2W Asasekiryu, 9. M3E Homasho, 10. K1E Aran, 11. K1W Tochinoshin, 12. M1W Kotoshogiku, 13. M2E Aminishiki 14. M8E Tamawashi.

Profomisakari's defaults:

Yay! Nice too see they're gonna follow my reasoning at least on some days. B-)

(...and that Miyabiyama is still scheduled...)

had the same reasoning, but missed that kotooshu also has to get an opponent....doh!

even did not realize my fault after all of you took tamawashi

Ok, Senshuraku is a doozy, has to be

Day 15 - Toyonoshima

(unless they really blank Kotooshu completely, but I doubt it)

Well, for some strange reason (probably because Hakuho should defeat Baruto, and Toyonoshima has a decent shot against Kaio), I think that senshuraku's final bout will be a crowd pleaser of Toyonoshima vs Hakuho, so who to give to Kise? Well Yoshikaze looks good, but I'm opting for Tokusegawa....

Sumo Games Health Warning: Jejima's reasoning often leads to disappointment. Follow at your own peril!

Andonishiki (M5E 8-6) M5

Andonishiki's pick was wrong (Yoshikaze), his record should be 7-7...

On a different subject: Congrats to Kotoviki for winning the kanto-sho! None of her four losses were consecutively, and as she won on Day 14 she's guaranteed to keep her longest losing streak limited to one day. All other players had back-to-back losses or absences at a minimum.

day 15 tokusegawa

i guess homasho will get yoshikaze in a 7-7 duell on senshuraku

and i do not think they will give toyonoshima hakuho just to please the crowd......it would not be ok to have a yusho winner (easily possible for toyonoshima) not facing the yokozuna.....and for that reason it will be hakuho-toyonoshima on senshuraku

true - I should be 7-7; already proud to get that far and not having missed a day

on the way to Kyushu now - wanna see that senshuuraku live !

day 15 tokusegawa

I'm going to go a bit off the wall. If Hak gets Toyo, Osh gets Kaio. I think there are better aites for Tokusegawa and Yoshikaze. The closest to Kisenosato's record that he hasn't faced yet is Goeido. I say they bring up:

Day 15 - Goeido ... for a sansho bout

Posted

Why are you all thinking that Hakuho gets Toyonoshima on senshuraku? This sort of thing has never happened since the yusho exists. Admittedly it's a rare occurence to start with and things can change but still... I think it's a longshot.

I am surprised at how much I had to think for a day 15 match but I go with my thinking over the last few days and say

Day 15 Toyonoshima

Rules question:

It might be possible that the day 15 torikumi will be announced only after tomorrows bouts are over, which has happened before in similar situations. Will we be allowed to react here accordingly, i.e. postpone the deadline? Or perhaps enter multiple picks depending on the day 14 results?

But I generally agree with Doitsuyama. Hakuho-Toyonoshima should only be happening as kettei-sen.

Is the Day 15 deadline the same as on other days even though the torikumi is published later than usual? I'd like to post a response to Doitsuyama's query sometime before the Day 14 bouts and before the Day 15 schedule is out (so it doesn't look like I'm working from hindsight), but I don't want to influence the game.

Edit: Ahh, looks like I'm not the only one wondering. Well, trying to anticipate when exactly the senshuraku torikumi is released may well be the only thing more difficult than predicting Kisenosato's aites...

Edit some more: Bold prediction, however - the Day 15 schedule will be out sometime in the middle of Day 14 makuuchi, per the norm. If they feel the need to schedule Toyonoshima against Hakuho, they will do so no matter if he wins or loses against Kaio, and if (as Doitsuyama believes) they don't feel that need altogether they won't.

That's what PM's are for. B-)

Bah, I've already written it in English... (Laughing...) Alrighty though.

Yeah!!! Thank you!!! Boy day 15 is tough! I've been talking with my friend about this. Yes, Hakuho should be facing Kotooshu as a rule. It should not be that Toyo-chan faces him on senshuraku but rather as a ketteisen.

So for day 15 I think I'll go with Toyonoshima (though I like the Goeido idea as well!)

Kisenosato beat the yokozuna so a good choice for Toyonoshima.

However, in my plan Baruto beats Hakuho tomorrow and Toyo-chan wins as well... everyone else at 2L and then Toyo-chan wins over Kise and wallah, no ketteisen just a yusho for him!!! (Yusho winner...)

Down the banzuke we go in search for a guy with a Kise-like score and it brings up

Goeido

as the final opponent of this remarkable basho.

Posted

It's just totally ironic that the most exciting basho in, I can't remember how long, is being played out to a half-full stadium with only one or two sold out days so far! Whenever Kaio retires, they should drop the Kyushu basho entirely and give Osaka two or add a 4th for Tokyo as Fukuoka just can't be a money maker for the Kyokai, but that's fodder for another thread.

It just doesn't make sense not to give a potential Yusho winner a shot against the expected Yusho winner so I will go with:

Day 15: Goeido

Rule clarification:

Despite the day 15 torikumi often being out latish, this has not always been the case. The usual deadline remains.
