It is customary to have a hash-out-how-you-did-thread after each basho and since it hasn't been started yet, thought I would do the honors. I usually don't bother to participate in these because while I enjoy playing the games I do, whether I win or not I usually don't have results that I consider worth bragging about. For a change I had a rather good (for me at least) basho, with a couple notable exceptions.

It's hard to believe I almost decided to sit out the daily games this basho because I was afraid I wouldn't have enough time to spend on my picks and I ended up having one of my best basho ever. I even took a Yusho in one of my Forum games, too bad it doesn't count for SuperBanzuke!

Here is how I did with the ones as far as I can figure at this time:

21: did good for me, got 10 pts overall and finished up about midway down the list

Bench Sumo: was Nana Sho/Nana Hai but lost on day 15 ended up MK with 7-8

Chain Gang: the one lousy bit - Out on Day 2!

DST: KK figure it ought to be a 5-2

Fantasy: 93pts/#26 should be a 10-5 KK

FAWL: KK 8-7, this is an absolutely bizarre little game and I love it but I suck at it so if I got a KK that proves what a great basho this was for me!

Guess Kisenosato's Aite: got 3 correct, which for that game isn't exactly bad though not great either

GTB: oops forgot the other lousy bit: 0-15

ISP: excellent, had a good run before I trusted Robocop and Osh on the wrong days: 11-4

Juryo Game: pretty good I think a KK with about a 4-3

Maegashira Game: had a great start but had a bad last 5 I figure MK about a 3-4 or 2-5

Roto Sumo: very good was at 1-2 most of the way but slipped a litle at the end: KK w/5-2

SalaryCap: again great start slipped in the last 5 but figure should be KK w/4-3 depending on the last day which isn't yet posted now posted and I self destructed on Day 15 and slipped all the way to the bottom - AARRRRRGH! (Shaking head...)

SekiToto: extremely good ended up 11-4 chased the yusho most of the way

SumoGame: much better than usual for me actually ended up KK with 8-7

TRIO: an Info-Sumo forum game: 10-5, Yusho, Gino-Sho & Kanto Sho!

UDH: did very well here for a change, as of Day 14 I was at 14-1; Day 15 not yet posted but hopefully I didn't slip too far and might even have held my own, although a lot of losers won on Day 15!; now posted and I did slip a bit but ended at 8th place with a respectable 13-2!

Bench Sumo - 5-10, better than my 1-6 start was headed. I'll stay in Juryo, but it was an ugly basho.

Chain Gang - Day 1 or 2, like usual

FAWL - 6-9, ugly.

ISP - 11-4, will probably be adjusted to 10-5, but still, a strong Ozeki-like showing, and my best result this basho.

Juryo Game - Probably a 9-6 or so, 15th in makuuchi with 100 pts

Roto - Not as bad as I expected, 6-9, and probably Juryo.

Salary Cap - Once again, i stink up my own game.

Toto - 6-8-1, seems to be my MO this basho

Oracle - 572 points, 44/85 players, probably 7-8.

Hoshitori - 4-11

UDH - 252 points, flat dead last. I may have gotten my UDH and Hoshitori entries confused... 0-15

Odd - 4-11 probably into Juryo

Quad - 7-7-1, regretting missing that day

Sumo Game - 6-9

Wow, maybe I should retire. 2 KK in total.

In the SB games, I will have 9 KK and 10 MK (or equivalents) which will certainly lead to a hefty demotion on the next Superbanzuke. On the positive side, I had two jun-yusho (in games where I tend to be mediocre), so I get some healthy 20 Masters points (and extended my lead in the World Championship). The details:

GTB: dreadful and forgotten MK.

Norizo Cup: 7-8 and out of sanyaku.

Chaingang: out on day 3.

OBG: a dreadful 6-9.

Fantasy Sumo: nice finish as I moved up 120 positions on senshuraku. Should be a 10-5.

RotoSumo: never got off. 7-8 and kadoban-Ozeki.

Paper Oyakata: finishing just below the KK line, as per mostly usual. Out of sanyaku.

UDH: Results aren't there, but I was just below the KK line after day 14.

Hoshitori: abysmal 4-11. Back to kadoban.

Juryo Game: uneventful 9-6.

ISP: terrible 7-8 with a one- or even two-win reduction to follow.

Salarycap Sumo: 8-7

Tippspiel: 9-6 in Group 2, back to group 1.

Odd Sumo: still playing way too risky. 1-14 and back to Juryo.

Oracle: 10-5 and even a fraction of a Masters point.

Quad: 11-4 and jun-yusho (my best performance ever)

Toto: 12-3 and jun-yusho (tied for my best performance)

Sumo Game: Had a nuke-nuke pattern (LWLW etc.) from day 1 to day 14, and could break it on senshuraku. 14th KK in a row makes me very happy.

Bench: Good start with 8-4, but fell apart (8-7) on the home stretch. Lousy bout comments.

Well, I will concentrate on the SB games only.

Daily

Sumo Game 7-8

Bad luck of the Basho?!? Scored second most points but almost all my daily opponents did extremely well on the day we met.

Bench Sumo 8-7

Great comeback from 3-7. In the first half of the basho there were a few really unlucky losses and the KK is well deserved.

DST 11-4

Shared 7th place and after a couple of MK I'll return back to Group 1 with this result (On the banzuke...)

ST 8-7

Below average and I feel like I had finished MK

ISP 9-6

After a couple of 5-10 I'm glad to stop the downfall. 7-0 after day 7 helped a lot.

S4 7-8

Since I was Banzuke-gashira a couple of Basho ago I'm tumbling down the ranks.

Odd 8-7

Average performance without any highlights. Boring

Chain Gang

Kyokunankai let me down on Day 1

Pre-Basho

GTB 6-9

Banzuke committee must have been extremely drunk. I'm out of the Top 10 now :-)

Juryo Game 3-4

Too many losers in my squad (Kasugao, Kyokunankai). Instead of re-promotion to Juryo I'm sliding down further.

Roto Sumo 3-4

I usually suck in this game and this Basho was no exception.

OBG 7-8

Toyonoshima, Kakuryu and Tamanoshima did not deliver.

POG 9-6

Surprising. The same Rikishi in OBG did worse.

Salary Cap 10-5

Not bad at all. Best Ozeki, defended O1e.

Norizo Cup 10-5

Surprise on Day 13 to find myself on Ozeki-rank (Clapping wildly...) This result is not bad for a Shin-Ozeki.

Fantasy Sumo 10-5

I finally reached the Top 42 on Banzuke this Basho. This result will bring me up a few more ranks.

S-Oracle 12-3

Big surprise. Jun-Yusho (Clapping wildly...) (Second prize...) and Shukun-Sho. I did not expect this at all.

Hoshitori Toto 11-4

After 13-2 and 13-2 these 11 wins should boost me to Ozeki rank (On the banzuke...)

UDH 15-0 and Yusho (First prize...) (Clapping wildly...) (Clapping wildly...) (Clapping wildly...)

Yabbadabbaduuuuuuuuuu. My first UDH Yusho and with this result ensured my promotion to Yokozuna (A yokozuna...)

In total these are 11 KK and 7 MK (or equivalents). 7th rank in SB Masters again, established myself in the current Top 10. Way to go.

UDH 15-0 or 14-1?

Results are not yet published. Yusho or Jun-Yusho, that is the question as Senshuraku results are not yet published. Anyway, the highlight will be my expectef promotion to Yokozuna after 13-2, 13-2 and 14-1/15-0 from Oe :-)

How many points do you have on Day 15 (total points)?

Then I tell you if you take Yusho or Jun-yusho (Clapping wildly...)

Hi Kotononami,

I had the following line-up:

6 pts: Homasho M2e (9-6 M5w)

5 pts: Tochiozan K1w (11-4 M6e)

5 pts: Miyabiyama M1w (10-5 M7e)

4 pts: Tochinoshin M2w (9-6 M6w)

4 pts: Koryu M16e (11-4 J6w)

3 pts: Wakanosato M3w (6-9 M1w)

3 pts: Tochinonada M14e (10-5 J2w)

2 pts: Aminishiki S1w (8-7 K1w)

2 pts: Toyonoshima M1e (6-9 S1w)

2 pts: Wakakoyu M15e (9-6 J1w)

1 pt: Kakuryu M3e (6-9 M1e)

1 pt: Kitataiki M4e (10-5 M10e)

1 pt: Asasekiryu M4w (10-5 M11e)

With this selection I have made 25 points on Senshuraku. Now tell me your result and let's end this nailbiting period of waiting for final results. In case you have won, please take my heartliest Congratulations. I'm fine with the Tsuna which I''ll hopefully get after 13-2, 13-2 and this 14-1/15-0. A Yusho just would be the ice on the cake...

Even if there is still little chance that other 14-1 players have made a 30+ score on senshuraku for the yusho.

Good luck to you!

Thank you! Wow, a win in a game that is meant to pick losers.... Regarding the other pursuers, 3rd kajyama has 24 or 25 points, 4th Chisaiyama has even less on Day 15, so any other player would need already 33+ points which rather unlikely with Wakanosato, Hakuba, Wakakoyu, Aminishiki and Toyonoshima winning... But you never know. Chmapagne is on ice but not yet opened....

For me and my style of playing, "knowing" Juryo is decisive for good performance in the games I care about the most -- Seki-Toto and Seki-Quadrumvirate. This month, my juryo picks predictions suffered badly, and as a result I put a very disappointing results on both games. Therefore I consider this basho the worst one I had so far.

(Thinking in depth...) ;-) (Sign of disapproval...) Sekitori-Toto

I'm still ashamed to open the results page... 4-11 from M1W will lead to I-am-afraid-even-to-ask-how-big demotion.

(Sign of disapproval...) (Sign of disapproval...) (Sign of disapproval...) Sekitori-Quadrumvirate

5-10 from M7e in a basho with relatively high scoring will mean again a painful hit. I should concentrate more on doing keiko rather than discussing the banzuke before the basho starts ;-)

(Sign of disapproval...) Bench Sumo

My personal "number 3 favorite game".

I was very happy with my maegashira team selection. But I didn't manage to utilize it enough, and after an embarrassing 4 points on the last day, I ended up with MK. 7-8 from ms5w, and the road to sekitorihood gets long again...

(Sign of disapproval...) Ciber-sumo is the first sumo-game I started and which is not too much in the spotlight here on the forum. My leading ciber-rikishi won the Makuuchi yusho with 11-4 but the other two got MK, and overall my heya finished 44th. Quite a fall from 6th in Haru.

(Sign of approval...) (Sign of approval...) Hoshitori A game that require similar "skills" with Ciber-sumo. Also, a game with quite thin line between excellent basho and a total disaster. This time I ended up on the positive side with 12-3.

(Sign of approval...) Odd sumo 15-0 in Juryo. Got lucky -- won it only with 33.85 points.

(Sign of approval...) Salarycap sumo is a game where I obviously miss the necessary skills, and I tend to suck. This time, for a change, I invested a lot in Hakuho, and I ended up with KK. Amazing. Now only if I learn how to pick effectively from the cheap stock...

(Sign of disapproval...) ISP 7-7-1. Now why I got an absence on day 15 instead of an auto pick -- I don't know. But anyway I am happy I finished better than in Toto, since these two games are connected for me.

By the way, in this new version of ISP that Kofuji mentioned that needs finalization -- is there an option to connect your ISP pick with your Toto form? Should be useful for somebody that play both games as, probably, he'll use the same decision in both..

(Sign of disapproval...) (Sign of disapproval...) (Sign of disapproval...) Juryo game I think I won that game (or finished somewhere on the top) few basho ago. Alas, since then my results are dreadful. Now also 1-14. I should consider intai maybe...

(Sign of approval...) Chaingang I play this game very cautiously. Not looking at all for the tie-breaker score, and picking up mainly ozeki. Now i finished 6th, out on day 9. My stand-in pick, Kakuryu, made me survive day 8 when the Baruto bandwagon derailed, but the same Kakuryu was also my (auto)pick the next day when he faced Hakuho.

(Sign of disapproval...) Sekitori-Oracle A shot in the dark, as usual. 5-10.

(Sign of disapproval...) (Sign of disapproval...) (Sign of disapproval...) Maegashira game is a game that I still cannot find out where is the fun. It's not about knowing which rikishi will win -- it is about knowing who is the most popular pick that will lose. And this makes me believe that a successful game strategy is somewhere between Odd-Sumo risk-based picking and wild guessing. Obviously, the truth is somewhere else, so maybe I'll head for intai there soon.
