Stealing the following shamelessly from the SML, posted after Day 8:

in the german sumochat today an interesting question was asked:

when was the last basho there were 4 rikishi at 8-0 in makunouchi on nakabi?

maybe one of the statistians out there knows the answer

I hope I can be first in replying to this.

According to my statistics, we have to go all the way back to March 1989, to find as many as 4 undefeated rikishi after nakabi. Then it was an amazing 6 rikishi still without a loss. The following shows the rikishi, their rank, how long the were undefeated and their final record.

Chiyonofuji Yokozuna 14-0 14-1 (yusho)

Hokutoumi Yokozuna 11-0 11-4

Onokuni Yokozuna 11-0 12-3

Hokutenyu Ozeki 10-0 12-3

Asahifuji Ozeki 8-0 13-2 (jun-yusho)

Konishiki Ozeki 8-0 10-5

1989. So that makes it possibly even more special than a zensho yusho!

I wonder when was the last time the end result of such a close basho was a zensho.
