Naganoyama Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 The complete banzuke down to Jonokuchi is available here Excuse the garish colours.
QttP Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Thank you. (Sign of approval) Roho got from J9 to J3 with 11-4. That's almost no underpromotion. 10-5 is likely to get him into Makuuchi, but I'm not sure he'll manage it.
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 Makushita is filled with good and pretty good stuff. Hagiwara at Ms1 ready for sekitorihood. Tarzan Kotoshogiku at Ms6 having a wonderful chance to show now that he is finally ready to step into the big boots he has been given by some people. Kotoshogiku's training partner Kotooshu at Ms2 has a good chance to get into juryo with his tall body and Bulgarian mind. Kotonowaka may be proud of those guys after Haru basho. 20 year old Toyonoshima is at career high at Ms4 as is 20 year old Chiyohakuho at Ms10. Behemoth Gokenzan can make a come-back once again.... Hernia's CV input Tochinohana in makushita is of some ambiguous interest. In juryo things are interesting. New blood has flown, old blood has found new spirit. Some blood is deteriorating. Is Takanowaka forever finished? What is his problem? Why is he so weak? Will Tokitenku deploy leg magic in juryo too? Probably. Is Ama fat at all? No. He is the most interesting newcomer in juryo. KaidoU! Roho! Nakao! Hakuho! Gojoro! Kasugao! Lot and less is expected from o's. We shall see what happens and what does not happen.

aderechelsea Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I would bet against Roho getting 10 or more wins at J3... it's a bit risky but.......................i take that bet.......... :-P
Tenkashoryu Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 it's a bit risky but.......................i take that bet.......... I'm in too. :-P
Takanobaka Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I'm surprised that Kotooshu didn't end up at MS1w...
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I'm surprised that Kotooshu didn't end up at MS1w... It's a conspiracy of intergalactic proportions. --- Thank you for the banzuke, Naganoyama. You do know Nekonishiki produces also the whole banzuke in romaji?

Kashunowaka Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 I'm surprised that Kotooshu didn't end up at MS1w... I agree with you. I don't understand the makushita promotions at all. After Hatsu basho there were speculations about whether Kotooshu (Ms8e, 6-1) would be promoted to juryo or not, but Shigezakura (Ichinotani) became the last promotee (Ms5e, 4-3). Now it turns out that had there been more promotions to juryo, Hagiwara was next in line (Ms18e, 7-0) and then Daishodai (Ms5w, 4-3)?? (Laughing...)
Asashosakari Posted March 2, 2004 Posted March 2, 2004 (edited) I'm surprised that Kotooshu didn't end up at MS1w... I agree with you. I don't understand the makushita promotions at all. Now it turns out that had there been more promotions to juryo, Hagiwara was next in line (Ms18e, 7-0) and then Daishodai (Ms5w, 4-3)?? (Laughing...) I don't think you can necessarily conclude that way. It's not inconsistent to say that in a matter of intra-Makushita promotions, Hagiwara could be ahead of Daishodai, while in a promotion race to Juryo Daishodai would have been next (by virtue of Hagiwara being disqualified from consideration due to his low previous rank). Stranger things have certainly happened. That being said, I'm personally not surprised that Daishodai has ended up before Kotooshu, as that pretty much fits recent Kyokai behaviour where one full rank usually equals one win at the top of Makushita, but I am surprised that Hagiwara passed by both of them. I expected him to end up between them or perhaps behind both. One of those would have been okay with me. (Eating...) Kotooshu would still have been Ms2e in the first case, so I'm not really surprised about that either, just about the order of the two ahead of him. Incidentally, that's actually the first time a Makushita 7-0 has been promoted to Ms1e since Moti started tracking Makushita, i.e. in more than five years... Edit: Oh, and how about Wakatenro being dropped a full 14 ranks with his 0-4-11 record? That's the first time in at least a couple of years that a 0-15 equivalent record of a sekitori led to a demotion of more than 12.5 ranks (i.e. 25 half-ranks), which seemed to be a 'hard' limit for the sekitori ranks... Naganoyama Posted March 3, 2004 Author Posted March 3, 2004 Thank you for the banzuke, Naganoyama. You do know Nekonishiki produces also the whole banzuke in romaji? Oh cool! Very similar format too! (But no garish colours) (Laughing...)
