Doitsuyama Posted January 18, 2004 Posted January 18, 2004 Yokozuna Asashoryu still is undefeated and finishes the first week with an 8-0 record. But his four pursuers won't let him walk away as all four won today as well. Ozeki Kaio also won and is the only Sanyaku left at two losses as Musoyama and Wakanosato lost today. In Juryo five rikishi lead at 6-2 with Wakanoyama, Chiyotenzan, Futeno, Hakuho and Juryo-jiri Juzan. Hamanishiki looks totally changed over the last few days. The first days he looked quite injured and limping, but the last days he limped no more and won in powerful ways. -- Doitsuyama Makuuchi yusho arasoi Zensho One loss Two losses Three losses Four losses ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- ------------- Asashoryu Tochiazuma Kaio Musoyama Kyokushuzan Chiyotaikai Shimotori Wakanosato Jumonji Kotomitsuki Buyuzan Dejima Kotoryu Kakizoe Miyabiyama Kokkai Aminishiki Asasekiryu Takanonami Ushiomaru Tochisakae Kaiho Asanowaka Tamakasuga Hayateumi Day 8 Juryo J14w Juzan (6-2) hikiotoshi J14e Sumanofuji (5-3) J13e Hamanishiki (5-3) oshitaoshi Ms3w Sumiya (1-4) J12e Hakuho (6-2) kotenage J13w Oginishiki (4-4) J10w Daimanazuru (2-6) yorikiri J12w Tochifudo (2-6) J9e Masutsuyoshi (2-6) yorikiri J10e Gokenzan (3-5) J11w Bushuyama (5-3) hatakikomi J6e Tochinohana (1-7) J11e Nakao (5-3) tsukiotoshi J5w Towanoyama (3-5) J9w Roho (5-3) hikiotoshi J3e Harunoyama (5-3) J3w Chiyotenzan (6-2) yorikiri J5e Takanotsuru (4-4) J4w Futeno (6-2) yorikiri J2e Otsukasa (5-3) J8e Kaido (4-4) yorikiri J2w Kasugao (1-7) J6w Wakanoyama (6-2) oshidashi J1e Toyozakura (4-4) J1w Kobo (5-3) kainahineri J4e Oikari (4-4) Makuuchi M17e Hayateumi (4-4) yorikiri M16e Asanowaka (5-3) M16w Tamakasuga (4-4) hatakikomi M15w Kaiho (4-4) M14e Ushiomaru (4-4) yorikiri M15e Kitazakura (2-6) M14w Buyuzan (6-2) oshidashi M12e Asasekiryu (4-4) M12w Wakatoba (2-6) tsukiotoshi M11e Yotsukasa (2-6) M11w Tochisakae (5-3) oshidashi M13w Takanowaka (3-5) M7e Shimotori (6-2) hikiotoshi M9e Kotoryu (4-4) M7w Miyabiyama (5-3) oshidashi M10e Takanonami (5-3) M6e Dejima (5-3) oshidashi M10w Kokkai (4-4) M5e Kakizoe (7-1) oshidashi M9w Kinkaiyama (2-6) M8w Jumonji (4-4) oshidashi M5w Kasuganishiki (2-6) M4w Kotomitsuki (7-1) oshidashi M8e Aminishiki (5-3) M1w Hokutoriki (2-6) hikiotoshi M6w Takekaze (1-7) M2e Iwakiyama (2-6) uwatenage K1e Tochinonada (3-5) M3e Takamisakari (2-6) yorikiri K1w Wakanosato (5-3) O2e Kaio (6-2) oshitaoshi M4e Tokitsuumi (3-5) O1w Chiyotaikai (7-1) hikiotoshi M3w Kyokutenho (2-6) O1e Tochiazuma (7-1) hatakikomi S1e Tosanoumi (2-6) S1w Tamanoshima (2-6) yoritaoshi O2w Musoyama (5-3) Y1e Asashoryu (8-0) oshidashi M2w Kyokushuzan (4-4) Day 9 Makushita Ms4e Nadatsukasa (0-4) Ms14e Hokutoiwa (0-4) Ms3e Tokitenku (2-2) Ms6w Kotokuni (2-2) Ms6e Ryuho (2-2) Ms2w Ama (2-2) Ms5e Shigezakura (1-3) Ms1w Senshuyama (1-3) Ms1e Raiko (2-2) Ms2e Dewanofuji (2-2) Juryo J12e Hakuho (6-2) J13e Hamanishiki (5-3) J11e Nakao (5-3) J12w Tochifudo (2-6) J13w Oginishiki (4-4) J10w Daimanazuru (2-6) J10e Gokenzan (3-5) J14e Sumanofuji (5-3) J6e Tochinohana (1-7) J14w Juzan (6-2) J5e Takanotsuru (4-4) J11w Bushuyama (5-3) J8e Kaido (4-4) J4w Futeno (6-2) J4e Oikari (4-4) J9w Roho (5-3) J5w Towanoyama (3-5) J3w Chiyotenzan (6-2) J9e Masutsuyoshi (2-6) J2w Kasugao (1-7) J6w Wakanoyama (6-2) J1w Kobo (5-3) J1e Toyozakura (4-4) J2e Otsukasa (5-3) Makuuchi M17e Hayateumi (4-4) M16w Tamakasuga (4-4) J3e Harunoyama (5-3) M15w Kaiho (4-4) M14w Buyuzan (6-2) M12w Wakatoba (2-6) M14e Ushiomaru (4-4) M11w Tochisakae (5-3) M13w Takanowaka (3-5) M10w Kokkai (4-4) M10e Takanonami (5-3) M16e Asanowaka (5-3) M15e Kitazakura (2-6) M9w Kinkaiyama (2-6) M12e Asasekiryu (4-4) M8w Jumonji (4-4) M8e Aminishiki (5-3) M9e Kotoryu (4-4) M11e Yotsukasa (2-6) M7w Miyabiyama (5-3) M6e Dejima (5-3) M7e Shimotori (6-2) M6w Takekaze (1-7) M4w Kotomitsuki (7-1) M5e Kakizoe (7-1) M2w Kyokushuzan (4-4) M2e Iwakiyama (2-6) M5w Kasuganishiki (2-6) K1e Tochinonada (3-5) M3w Kyokutenho (2-6) M1e Toki (1-4-3) S1w Tamanoshima (2-6) S1e Tosanoumi (2-6) M1w Hokutoriki (2-6) O2e Kaio (6-2) O2w Musoyama (5-3) K1w Wakanosato (5-3) O1w Chiyotaikai (7-1) O1e Tochiazuma (7-1) M3e Takamisakari (2-6) Y1e Asashoryu (8-0) M4e Tokitsuumi (3-5)
Yoavoshimaru Posted January 18, 2004 Posted January 18, 2004 Well, Hamanishiki's resurgence will surely be tested against Hakuho... Good bout (Welcome...)
Kashunowaka Posted January 18, 2004 Posted January 18, 2004 Today the emperor was present, and thus the dohyo-iri was different than usual. Doitsuyama, would it be possible for you to make a clip showing either or both of the nakabi makuuchi dohyo-iri, if you have that recorded from the stream?

Some stills will appear soonish on the pics thread (of all 3 ceremonial events) Juryo being normal, Makuuchi rather special and the younger lads too. ANR

I made a clip as requested, covering the whole Makuuchi dohyō-iri. This was great! Thanks. :-) The level of synchronisation of the ritual movements was a bit disappointing (perhaps I have been spoilt by watching British ceremonies like the Changing of the Guard and Trooping the Colour) but they didn't even seem to crouch and rise together. It was quite interesting to see who was relaxed and who fidgeted as it was their turn to stand up and be announced. It didn't seem to relate to how well they were doing in the basho either. (Not that you would necessarily expect it to, come to think of it, but it also did not seem to relate to 'presence' in the dohyo during a bout) Some of them just stood up and were calm and still. (e.g. Tosanoumi, Hayateumi, Shimotori) Others (e.g. Chiyotaikai, Wakanosato, Takanonami) seemed to worry suddenly that they had forgotten to put on their kesho mawashi after their shower and just had to check. (Flies open syndrome?) Would it be possible to put up a clip of a normal dohyo-iri from this basho? I would be really interested to see more detail of this too.

You can see them along with the Makushita and Jūryō bouts from today at http://www.banzuke.com/~juryoika/200401/#11.
Naganoyama Posted January 22, 2004 Posted January 22, 2004 Thanks. I will go there. Much appreciated. (Applauding...)
