Zentoryu Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 From Mr. Kuroda again... Rikishi Talk Day 5 Hatsu Basho ============================== Kaido (vs Ooikari) ------------------ -First sekitori to win by Tokkuri-nage (Tokkuri is a ceramic thingy you pour hot sake to a mini-sake cup) "It's the first time I heard of this kimarite. I've never done it even during training sessions. I am kind of pleased to see people are noticing me but personally I consider Yorikiri or Oshidashi to be a better way to win." (The kimarite was set up three years ago. It used to be a part of 'Gassho-hineri' which a rikishi wraps his arm around his opponent's back and then throws him while twisting. Tokkuri-nage involves you use your hands to grab your opponent's head and neck area and throws him while twisting his head. The reason it is called 'Tokkuri' is the form of your opponent is similar to a tokkuri while being thrown away as his body becomes horizontal.) Kaio (vs Wakanosato) --------------------- "I've just left everything half done. There was absolutely nothing good about the bout today. The bout finished long before I even got started." Musoyama (vs Hokutoriki) ------------------------ "I couldn't move at all today. The angle of attack was all wrong. Something must be lacking." Asasekiryu (vs Hayateumi) ------------------------- - Over 7 minutes of sumo with a Mizu-iri break. "This is the first time something like that happened to me. My opponent has quite a few moves so I persevered. Simply said, now I am exhausted." Hokutoriki (vs Musoyama) ------------------------ -On the first win of this basho and a win from Ozeki. "I visualized to move forward hard. But I couldn't continue as the pressure he exerted was enormous, so I ended up pulling him. I don't think the Ozeki would not be fooled again like that." Tamanoshima (vs Kyokutenho) --------------------------- -The first win as a new Sekiwake by overwhelming Kyokutenho. "I am happy that I was able to win with such a good sumo. He has a long reach so I knew if I rested even a little, I would lose." Asashoryu (vs Iwakiyama) ------------------------ -Executing a powerful sukui-nage against a very heavy opponent. "I had firm grips on the mawashi with both hands. I needed to really motivate myself seeing one Ozeki after another collapsing in front of me but actyally it got me psyched up more." Chiyotaikai ----------- Prior to the bout ================== "Whoever pulls clumsily will lose." Kokonoe oyakata ---------------- "Even getting desparate, don't ever to go for a trick play like pull-and-slap routine..." Kitanoumi Oyakata, Chair of Kyokai ---------------------------------- "Only one thing Chiyotaikai should guard against - is to pull. Chiyotaikai (vs Tosanoumi) -------------------------- After the bout =============== "The two Ozeki just lost back to back and there was a rather gloomy air prevailing on the dohyo. And then...I had to go along with it..." "I felt it would turn out just as badly as soon as I hit him. I lost it in the exchange." "Prior to the basho I wasn't able to train well due to injuries to my neck and left elbow so I figured sooner or later, it (the lack of training) will catch up to me. The shisho was saying it would show up somewhere...just yesterday" Kitanoumi Oyakata, Chair of Kyokai ---------------------------------- "Now With all Ozekis losing, I am concerned about the rest of basho." Otake Oyakata (former Sekiwake Takatoriki) ------------------------------------------ -Came rushing by to the bath after hearing loud Gollum-like groans from Chiyotaikai. "Listen, yours is Oshi-zumo! You've got nothing else to do except push hard and move forward." ===== .....Jonosuke
QttP Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Rikishi Talk Day 5 Hatsu Basho ============================== Chiyotaikai (vs Tosanoumi) -------------------------- After the bout =============== "I'm a stupid moron and I really really wanted to lose this bout. I was very surprised that at the even tachiai, because I hoped that I would be able to push Tosanoumi back a bit, which would allow me to crash out flat onto my stomach. When it didn't work, I hoped that at least my opponent would be able to push me backwards, so I could simply walk out and make it seem like a fair struggle. But he couldn't do that too, so the only choice for me was to pull the back of his head forcing him to walk me out. That's the only way I could have lost this particular match, and I'm very glad that I was able to find this way in the heat of the battle.
Yoavoshimaru Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Kokonoe oyakata---------------- "Even getting desparate, don't ever to go for a trick play like pull-and-slap routine..." Ever honorable. Kokonoe-oyakata is just The Man. I hope Chiyotaikai can become a fifth as good as his teacher.
Tumppi Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Chiyotaikai and Kaio should never try to pull their opponents down. I don't think anyone could just come and push them out if they didn't try pulldowns.
Manekineko Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Rikishi Talk Day 5 Hatsu Basho ============================== Chiyotaikai (vs Tosanoumi) -------------------------- After the bout =============== "I'm a stupid moron [...] Nice bout analysis, Qttp-zeki... (Punk rocker...)
Kotoseiya Yuichi Posted January 16, 2004 Posted January 16, 2004 Ever honorable. Hmm... (And don't ask for more, please. I'm not writing more about this subject.)
Naganoyama Posted January 17, 2004 Posted January 17, 2004 Chiyotaikai and Kaio should never try to pull their opponents down. I don't think anyone could just come and push them out if they didn't try pulldowns. I agree totally. I just wish they wouldn't.
