Shiyonofuji/Kaiopectate Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 (edited) For those of you interested in the Sumo Game, on the japanguide.com website -- http://www.japanguide.info/sumo/ -- contestant Bishonohana is approaching an all time record for points in a basho -- no mean achievement since this game has been running for 10 years. The all time record for points, shared by noteworthies named Norizo, Randomitsuki, Asashimaru and Tsuyoikaze, has been at risk this basho, since everyone's predictions have proven much more reliable and EVERYONE taken together is likely to average over 7 wins per day. But, even after a difficult Day 13, Bishonohana stands at 109 points -- (he managed 7 on a day in which I crawled in with 4), which is an average of nearly 8 1/2. If Bishonohana merely breaks even during the final 2 days, picking 10 winners in 20 bouts, she'll have the all time record of 120 wins! Good luck to Bishonohana! http://www.japanguide.info/sumo/stats.html?3 (Bishonohana is already on the all time list with 2 days to go, at #403!) Edited March 28, 2010 by Shiyonofuji/Kaiopectate
Kintamayama Posted March 26, 2010 Posted March 26, 2010 since everyone's predictions have proven much more reliable and EVERYONE taken together is likely to average over 7 wins per day. I'd say everyone's predictions were more predictable, and it shows in every single game played, including the inglorious Chaingang.
Hashira Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 and in of those wonderful paradoxes of sumo gaming, Andoreasu will be one of the large group that will break the previous record if he/she manages 8 wins on senshuraku, and could possibly end up with the most points this basho (and therefore alone in #1 all-time), but is already MK at 5-9
Terarno Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 And in ten years of Sumo Game, the one person that pulls the all-time record has to be in my torikumi on day 11 (Clapping wildly...) Good job, though.
Jakusotsu Posted March 27, 2010 Posted March 27, 2010 And in ten years of Sumo Game, the one person that pulls the all-time record has to be in my torikumi on day 11 (Clapping wildly...) Call it poetic justice following your high score on day 10. (Remember who was your opponent?) (Clapping wildly...)
Shiyonofuji/Kaiopectate Posted March 27, 2010 Author Posted March 27, 2010 since everyone's predictions have proven much more reliable and EVERYONE taken together is likely to average over 7 wins per day. How do you relate the retirements of Asashoryu and Chiyotaikai to the generally higher scores? A coincidence? Seems counterintuitive -- Asa certainly averaged more than 70% wins.
Sokkenaiyama Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) One theory is that Asashoryu's evil aura of doom was stopping the others from performing. But that should also work for their opponents, so I guess that's not it. Edited March 28, 2010 by Sokkenaiyama
Terarno Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 And in ten years of Sumo Game, the one person that pulls the all-time record has to be in my torikumi on day 11 (Yusho winner...) Call it poetic justice following your high score on day 10. (Remember who was your opponent?) B-) Ah ah ah, that's actually even worse, because I won't do this ever again, and it fell on you ! (Holiday feeling...)
Sokkenaiyama Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 Congratulations to Bishonohana for her great performance in SG! Call it poetic justice as well.
Terarno Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 I believe that in sumogaming, when it comes to daily picks, the "he won yesterday so I should play him today" theory is a very strong Jedi mind-trick. And this basho, there were 7 streaky Maegashira guys ending with double-digit KK, along with the usual Sanyaku big scores. That might have helped getting higher scores. Tokitenku : 8 wins in a row Kitataiki : 2x 3 wins in a row Tochiozan : 5 wins in a row Kotoshogiku : 5 wins in a row Asasekiryu : 4 and 3 wins in a row Miyabiyama : 9 wins in a row Kokkai : 3 and 4 wins in a row
Sokkenaiyama Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 What about the others who didn't follow the pattern?
Terarno Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 The Wyss-wat* must be a very widely spread disease ? * Won yesterday so should win again today
Shiyonofuji/Kaiopectate Posted March 28, 2010 Author Posted March 28, 2010 (edited) Here's the final results (Futeno...) : All of the following cyber-rikishi broke the old record for Sumo Game points in a basho: Tainosen, Hermanosho, Otokomae, Pandaazuma, Andoreasu and Sumio all got 120 points - (Clapping wildly...) - enough to break the previous all-time record in Sumo Game, for points in a basho, but not enough to match... Kogaratsu, Meyeryu, and Sokkenaiyama, each of whom got 121 points! (Clapping wildly...) Yet, even that was not enough to match ... Bishonohana (Clapping wildly...) , who becomes the all time high scorer in a basho, in Sumo Game -- that's 122 correct picks out of 150 bouts, or 81.3%. I picked 68 of 75 bouts in Bench Sumo this basho. Still, make-koshi (Holiday feeling...) and possibly down to makushita (Clapping wildly...). But Bishonohana's feat is truly excellent!Congrats! (Clapping wildly...) New all-time Sumo Game high scorer list: http://www.japanguide.info/sumo/stats.html?3 (Clapping wildly...) Edited March 28, 2010 by Shiyonofuji/Kaiopectate
yorikiried by fate Posted March 28, 2010 Posted March 28, 2010 My personal condolences to Andoreasu, who had to face no less than 125 [sic!] opponent points. There is no way to verify this without access to the database, but I guess this is also a new record.
Jejima Posted April 10, 2010 Posted April 10, 2010 I picked 68 of 75 bouts in Bench Sumo this basho. Still, make-koshi :-) and possibly down to makushita (Protesting...). And you now have the all-time Bench Technique points record in a single basho to go with your MK.
