Toyohibiki (6-1) over Shimotori by sukuinage, 11.3 sec

----------------------------------------------------------------

(Oshi-zumo specialist winning with a yotsu-zumo move, sukuinage.)

"For a moment I thought I was done for but I never gave up. I guess sometimes things do happen."

(With 6-1 record this basho)

"You know where I am ranked at (the bottom of Makuuchi West). I just want to get my 8 as quickly as possible. Then I go on from there."

Toyonoshima (3-4) over Kyokutenho by kubinage, 23.2 sec

---------------------------------------------------------------------

(Despite a height difference of 21 cm, beating 191 cm Kyokutenho with a neck throw.)

"I tried all I could not to fall before him by twisting my body."

(Though getting a win out of Kyokutenho last basho as well, he was not an easy opponent to face against as up to now he had 1 win 6 losses record against Kyoikutenho.)

"More than the fact that I was able to win with some power today, I am happy that I beat an opponent I have not done so well at all."

Kyokutenho (2-5) losing to Toyonoshima

---------- -------------------------------------

"Definitely I felt a mono-ii should have been called for. I really thought I'd come out winning."

Aminishiki (6-1) over Miyabiyama by yorikiri, 8.3 sec

--------------------------------------------------------------

(Preserving one loss record)

"I am actually coming to the basho as if's all training sessions. I was able to put in a good training session today too."

Kakizoe (4-3) losing to Kotooshu by oshidashi, 8.0 sec

-------------------------------------------------------------

(On Asashoryu bout on Day 8)

"I know what I can and what I cannot. What I can do is to move around a lot so I just make sure I do enough warm-ups before I go out there."

Takekaze (3-4) over Kotomitsuki by yorikiri, 11.9 sec

-------------------------------------------------------------

(What's up with winning by yorikiri)

"Oh that, it was just a flow. It just went that way. That's all. I was trying not to give him the right, that's all I was thinking about and trying to do."

Harumafuji (6-1) over Kisenosato by uwatenage, 21.0 sec

--------------------------------------------------------------------

(Looking mighty pleased after his win over Kisenosato)

"I had a good tachiai today for the first time in long time. I know he has been doing well so I was really looking forward to facing him today. I really wanted to show a good sumo. I can go against him without worrying about anything extra. He is, after all, my favorite opponent to face. Really.""

Kisenosato (5-2) losing to Harumafuji

--------------------------------------------

(All of sudden losing all his mojo)

"What can I say? You've all seen the bout yourself. No need for my analysis here."

"I will do all my best tomorrow (against Hakuho)."

Asashoryu (6-1) over Hokutoriki by Tsuridashi, 6.8 sec

-----------------------------------------------------------------

(Went through hard stare down contest with Hokutoriki during the shikiri and showing his raw intensity by giving Hokutoriki his patented Dame-oshi move after a tsuri-dashi.)

"I was so psyched up today. You know once I can get inside of him, it's all my sumo."

(Seeing Hakuho thrown out by Baruto)

"Man, that guy got some power. It's tough to throw out the yokozuna with a sukuinage and win."

Hokutoriki (2-5) losing to Asashoryu

------------------------------------------

(On the receiving end of Asashoryu's dameoshi push right on his face.)

"It didn't bother me. When you are psyched so bad, there are times you can't stop easily."

Hakuho (6-1) losing to Baruto by sukuinage, 7.7 sec

-------------------------------------------------------------

(Down by Baruto's sukuinage, his winning streak coming to a screeching stop at 30.)

"(A deep sigh)..."

(Asked if he may have been taking his opponent too lightly after winning 11 straight against him till today.)

"Perhaps....today I didn't press on hard enough, not keeping enough pressure. I should have taken a breath in before I moved in. But you must give some credit to him too. The way he changed his hands on mawashi for instance. He had a good timing. I had the uwate too deep. But how can I describe all this? I guess what I showed was the extent of what I am capable of now. I am far from all invincible."

(Told his hero Futabayama had his winning streak stopped at 69 on January 15 1939, only one day earlier.)

"If you want to make it as a fate, I guess it may very well be."

(Scraping his left shin as well.)

"Right now I can't afford to complain about this hurts or that."

Baruto (6-1) over Hakuho by Sukuinage, 7.7 sec

------------------------------------------------------------

(Showing maturity as a complete rikishi by sharpening up his skills and techniques and making throws with his left throw unbeatable even against a yokozuna now.)

'Incredible. Great. Right now my head is totally blanked out. I don't know what to say.""

"I am not yet at a stage where I can go with mawashi and throw him out consistently but I feel I can do something if I go with my left."

"I am really happy. It has taken a long time. It's been 2 years. I so desperately wanted to beat a yokozuna. Up to now I lost every yokozuna bout."

"We still have the half basho left so I want to do my best in every bout I have."

Musashigawa oyakata, Kyokai chairman

----------------------------------------------------

(On Baruto)

"I notice he is learning sumo moves more and more. Personally I think he is the man closest to ozeki."

Ozeki Kotomitsuki, 33, of Sadogatake Beya forwarded his kyujo notice after he lost to Takekaze on Day 7. His record up to today was 1 win and 6 loss. His kyujo is the first since the last Hatsu Basho and sixth in his career. His opponent on Day 8 Yoshikaze will get a fusen win.

"Apparently he cannot put any pressure on his left knee and big toe. I just want to get him enough time to rest and come back strong in the next basho as if he is starting all over again," his shisho Sadogatake oyakata said.

Kotomitsuki will be expected to forward a medical diagnosis on Sunday. The upcoming Haru Basho will become his second Kadoban basho.

It's the first time since the 1984 Hatsu Basho, nine rikishi ares tied for the first place after Day 7. The venue was still the Kuramae Kokugikan back then and the nine were Yokozuna Chiyonofuji, Takanosato, Ozeki Wakashimazu, Kotokaze, Hokutenho, Asashio and Hiramaku's Ozutsu, Dewanohana and Kurama all had 6 win 1 loss record. Chiyonofuji beat Takanosato with a tsuridashi on the senshuraku and won the yusho with 13-2 record.

Ahhhhhh..... it is back. (Sign of approval...)

Thank you.

I second that emotion! I've missed Rikishi Talk terribly. It's always my favorite thread during the basho.

Thank you, Jonosuke.
