Jakusotsu Posted January 15, 2010 Posted January 15, 2010 Standings after day 6: I guess Gernobono will have to wish for a stellar second week for Goeido to end this wave anytime soon. Far, far behind, there aren't many picked rikishi without a loss, the highest being Fukao and Azumaryu. Ganzohnesushi may still be in for a Juryo promotion - who knows? Jakusotsu Posted January 19, 2010 Posted January 19, 2010 Standings after day 10: Goeido turns the tide for Gernobono and might get easy enough opponents now to finally end this wave for him. Jakusotsu Posted January 24, 2010 Posted January 24, 2010 Final Standings Hatsu Basho and Rank Estimates for Haru Basho: Gernobono had to wait until the very last day for his surfing direction to be decided, and unfortunately his Goeido didn't want this wave to be ended right now. But with nobody else joining the Sekitori ranks any time soon, Gernobono can continue patiently and unchallenged for a while. Rank Shikona Surfs Position Standing Rank Estimate 1. Jakusotsu Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 What a waste of joker this was. (Sign of approval...) Yeah, I think you should have skipped Fukao and stuck with Higonojo, too.
Vikanohara Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Oh, I see what you mean. Well, didn't mean it that way of course. (Sign of approval...)
Asashosakari Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 (edited) Oh, I see what you mean.Well, didn't mean it that way of course. (Sign of approval...) Which way did you mean it? A real waste of a joker is when both guys you pick go 6-1. Your situation is pretty much the ideal outcome. Why do most players act like one pick is their "real" selection and the other is just a throw-in, anyway? They're totally equivalent picks, the "joker" designation merely means you're allowed to make multiple picks at a time. Has confused me for years now. Edited January 27, 2010 by Asashosakari
Vikanohara Posted January 27, 2010 Posted January 27, 2010 Which way did you mean it? Well, I meant it more or less like this : "What was I thinking to pick Higonojo, while Fukao was such a safe choice ? So why not just choosing the latter and thus saving a joker." But I agree that such a result is the perfect joker outcome.
Randomitsuki Posted January 27, 2010 Author Posted January 27, 2010 Of course, the picks are equivalent. However, in private parlance I regard jokers as the lower-ranked picks. Anyway, going with Higonojo and Fukao looked like a good move before the basho. They are seven full ranks apart which might have made Higonojo a better pick even if he had a win less than Fukao. As soon as your rikishi are in the Makushita-joi, such considerations become increasingly important.
