shumitto Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Rokumonsen... Danish-sounding name, which is nice, but could have this kanji 銭 Turning it a bit more serious Along with Tosayutaka, Hokutokuni didn't have the best of the starts as a sekitori, but he still looked good for a reasonably quick repromotion. After 2 Basho of absence in a string and his elevador into the 3rd tier, it seems otherwise right now.
Asojima Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 Here are the day 1 absences announced for non-sekitori rikishi. Typo and other error corrections are welcome:SANDANME East Sandanme 1 OZAKIUMI Went kyujo in July with a herniated disc. He had an 6 basho KK streak going from his hatsu basho including a Jk yusho and two 6-1's. Tough break for an excellent prospect.
ilovesumo Posted September 12, 2009 Posted September 12, 2009 For Masumeidai - must be injured. He was sitting beside me,pausing, when I watched Keiko at Chiganoura.

Washuyama Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I keep expecting to see Chiyohakuho in this thread every morning. It looks like he can't put any pressure at all on his right leg. Seems to me, the sooner he goes kyujo, the more time he has to let his leg rest...
ryafuji Posted September 16, 2009 Posted September 16, 2009 I keep expecting to see Chiyohakuho in this thread every morning. It looks like he can't put any pressure at all on his right leg. Seems to me, the sooner he goes kyujo, the more time he has to let his leg rest... A real shame this one, as until he got that injury against Kisenosato he looked like a solid maegashira, maybe even a sanyaku prospect. Hope he can come back. I agree a rest might be the best thing for him.
nomadwolf Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 Day 5These rikishi have withdrawn as of day 5: West Jonidan 96 AIMOTO (0-2) East Jonidan 119 YAMAMOTO (0-2, fusen day 4) West Jonokuchi 1 MITOZAKURA (1-1, fusen day 3) East Juryo 10 Kyokunankai (2-2)
shumitto Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 (edited) East Juryo 10 Kyokunankai (2-2) Left Leg injury. 10 days to heal. Okinoumi, with this one, improves to 5-0 and stays as the sole leading rikishi in Juryo. EDIT: another source, more precise, says this injury was a sprained ankle. Raishu Posted September 17, 2009 Posted September 17, 2009 I keep expecting to see Chiyohakuho in this thread every morning. I agree a rest might be the best thing for him. Resting wouldn't help at all. The best thing might be a surgery, but as we know, the current system doesn't allow sekitori to go under the knife (not to mention the rehab which could take months). Sad thing indeed!

Randomitsuki Posted September 18, 2009 Posted September 18, 2009 Here are the day 1 absences announced for non-sekitori rikishi. Typo and other error corrections are welcome:JONOKUCHI West Jonokuchi 28 TERASHITA I know this is really late but will he be banzuke-gai next time? ;-) If he doesn't appear for a single bout, yes.
Fukurou Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Day 7 Update This just in from the NSK website: West Juryo 1 KASUGANISHIKI (currently 2-4) is withdrawing on day 7. J5W KORYU will get the default win.
Asashosakari Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 This just in from the NSK website: West Juryo 1 KASUGANISHIKI (currently 2-4) is withdrawing on day 7. J5W KORYU will get the default win. Sprained right ankle, suffered in yesterday's yoritaoshi loss against Kitataiki. 10 days estimated recovery time (what, is there an official injury table that says "ankle sprain = 10 days"?), but in any case, according to Kasugano-oyakata he'll likely be back before too long. Ditto for Kyokunankai BTW whose oyakata said that they'll re-evaluate after 4-5 days. Maybe the two should combine into a single rikishi, Voltron-like, considering they still have a good left and a good right leg available between them...
Kintamayama Posted September 19, 2009 Posted September 19, 2009 East Juryo 10 Kyokunankai (2-2) Left Leg injury. 10 days to heal. Okinoumi, with this one, improves to 5-0 and stays as the sole leading rikishi in Juryo. EDIT: another source, more precise, says this injury was a sprained ankle. Kyokunankai is back tomorrow.
Fukurou Posted September 19, 2009 Author Posted September 19, 2009 Day 8 East Juryo 10 KYOKUNANKAI (2-3-2, absent from day 5) is returning to the tournament.
Fukurou Posted September 20, 2009 Author Posted September 20, 2009 Day 9 Two more withdrawals on day 9. Makuuchi remains the only division with everyone still participating. West Makushita 23 KAGAMIO (2-2) East Jonidan 63 KAINORYU (0-4)

Sad thing indeed! OK, surgery, then rest. The point we were making was, he shouldn't be out there.
