The 2 demotions are obviously Senshuyama and Dewanofuji. Juzan hangs on by the skin of his teeth.
Asashosakari Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 And with Senshuyama's demotion, another long-running Juryo stint comes to an end, after Wakakosho's ended in Aki...oh well. Only Harunoyama and Oginishiki can lay claim to a current run of 10 or more consecutive Juryo basho now.
furanohana Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 Juzan hangs on by the skin of his teeth. That's quite a good way to say it ! (Help me...)
Yoavoshimaru Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 West Makushita 16 (!) Daimanazuru 7-0 - new Nice job by Daimanazuru. I wonder then, does this mean that a college grand champion entering at the special Ms15 rank can make it to juryo with one zensho makushita yusho?

Yubiquitoyama Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) West Makushita 16 (!) Daimanazuru 7-0 - new Nice job by Daimanazuru. I wonder then, does this mean that a college grand champion entering at the special Ms15 rank can make it to juryo with one zensho makushita yusho? Very much so. Actually, it has never been question that Ms15w and higher ranked will be Juryo if getting a 7-0 (regardless of it being a yusho or a kettei-sen loss). This is as hard and fast rule as there is for Juryo promotions (as I understand it, this is an actual rule/agreement) . However, to get promotion from Ms16w was probably mostly because of the special situation with the four extra sekitori. Edited November 26, 2003 by Yubiquitoyama

Yeah, the reign of Harunoyama yet remains, and barring his predicted Ozeki run, probably could go on forever (Help me...) EDIT: I propose that if anyone here ever is part in making a book avbout sumo, the explanation of the term "Juryo rikishi" should include a picture of Harunoyama (Annoyed...) Asashosakari Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) Yeah, the reign of Harunoyama yet remains, and barring his predicted Ozeki run, probably could go on forever (Help me...) Hey, his 8-7 in Kyushu was just the start of that Ozeki run, you know. (Blushing...) Seriously though, at the very least he'll probably reach a new highest rank on the Hatsu banzuke, which should be occasion to celebrate in Matsugane-beya. ;-) On another, though slightly related subject...I have the weird obsession of checking their lower division records whenever a rikishi makes his Juryo debut, and interestingly enough, Daimanazuru has apparently been ranked in Makushita for over 5 years straight. More specifically, at least since 1998.05 which is where Moti's Makushita archive begins. (That's all the data I have access to...if anyone has older records, I'd be curious to know when exactly Daimanazuru's Makushita run started.) I guess we could call the guy an "eternal talent" (who still would not be in Juryo if it wasn't for the division expansion, I guess) - and it doesn't make me too hopeful for his chances of prevailing in Juryo. But maybe he'll surprise me. (Annoyed...) Edited November 26, 2003 by Asashosakari

Asashosakari Posted November 26, 2003 Posted November 26, 2003 (edited) (Blushing...) Yeah, that's what I call detailed! Many thanks, Doitsuyama-zeki. (Annoyed...) 37 consecutive Makushita basho...that's quite impressive. And he was fairly steady in Jonidan 1993-1994 and in Sandanme 1995-1997, too...maybe that's just the way he "works" and he'll now become a steady Juryo rikishi for the next 10 years... (Help me...) Tenkashoryu Posted November 28, 2003 Posted November 28, 2003 Hey guys, can give me some more descriptions about these new sekitoris. (Applauding...) Anything you like their physical characteristics, favourite technics and personalities. Especially about foreigners Roho and Hakuho. Thx,
Takanobaka Posted November 30, 2003 Posted November 30, 2003 Hey guys, can give me some more descriptions about these new sekitoris. :-( Anything you like their physical characteristics, favourite technics and personalities. Especially about foreigners Roho and Hakuho. Thx, Don't know much about Hakuho, but Roho (besides obviously being Russian) seems slightly more yotsu than oshi, although he seems to mix it up a bit more than most. Also, he's fairly slim and muscular, although it looks like he could still fill out quite a bit. As for his personality, I'll just assume he's a good guy until proven otherwise (Sigh...)
