Asojima Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 The dohyo is in terrible shape for at least the first 6 makuuchi matches. Rikishi have been sliding all over the place.
Asojima Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Baruto had an impressive win over Shotenro. He picked him up near the center of the ring and casually strolled him to the edge.
Peeter Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Baruto had an impressive win over Shotenro. He picked him up near the center of the ring and casually strolled him to the edge. This is his way to show to newcomers ( for him ) who is the BOSS :-|
Asojima Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 Aminishiki was telegraphing his henka against Mickey from the getgo. Mickey was probably the only person surprised by it.
Peeter Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Henka is in Japan normal thing, as "In Italy everything is possible!" :-|
sekihiryu Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Asa pulls out a yaguranage (inner thigh throw) - This technique can be done from either an inside or outside grip. As the attacker pulls his opponent into him, he will drop his hips and place the outside of his knee against the defender's inner thigh. As the attacker starts the throwing motion with the hand on the same side of the leg touching the defender's thigh, he will drive that leg upwards. This, combined with the throwing motion of the attacker's hands, will force the defender over onto his side. wow the first one in the top div in 30 years! (Blinking...) :-|

Sokkenaiyama Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Glad to see him finally pull it off. He had tried it before, as recently as last basho (against the same opponent, too).

Jokkamura Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Aminishiki was telegraphing his henka against Mickey from the getgo. Mickey was probably the only person surprised by it. Very obvious! I tried to tell Mickey that this would happen but it seems that there is no back channel in stream. :-|
Harry Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Henka is in Japan normal thing, as "In Italy everything is possible!" :-| Yes, they clap and say "katchi wa katchi" a win is a win...

Otherwise one could think the images are copyrighted by the Estonian site.

Washuyama Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 (edited) I think Asa was trying to make a statement today. A little "Don't write me off to intai yet!!." Nishi, Who was Aobajo's opponent? Just curious. Never mind... I just saw it in the other thread.. Edited July 24, 2009 by Washuyama

Peterao Posted July 24, 2009 Posted July 24, 2009 Next basho Asa should try for a tsukaminage...looks like that hasn't been done in the top ranks in 55 years, although the waza-no-depato known as Orora has one to his credit.

I'm particularly interested in "ushirohikimawashi"...sounds like the guy wins by giving his opponent a wedgie from behind?

My random guess would be that it was roughly something like okurihikiotoshi nowadays...
Asojima Posted July 24, 2009 Author Posted July 24, 2009 It was mentioned today that Hakuho doing the dohyo-iri above the west shikiri sen is a homage to Futabayama. Interesting. I noticed that he was a bit offcenter this basho. I thought he was just getting a bit careless.
