Kotoviki Posted July 19, 2009 Posted July 19, 2009 Baruto for me Day 10. I will not be there because I have to go back to Tokyo to work for two days. I do NOT want to see them fight each other so I hope they do it while I am not here in Nagoya!!
Oshirokita Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 aaargh, why do I seem to be able to pick every sanyaku right EXCEPT for Kisenosato and his aite? Day 11 Tochiozan ???
Profomisakari Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Give him for day 11 Kyokutenho please! Profomisakari
Maguroyama Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I don't want to steal Kofuji's job, but since guesses are already being entered for day 11, I thought I'd have a stab at this. Kisenosato's opponent for day 10 is Kotooshu, mini-bandwagon cashing in! The leader, Maguroyama - why, that's me! - is invited to make early pick. Yaochoyama (O1E 4-6) O Sokkenaiyama (S1E 2-8) S Profomisakari (S1W 4-6) Jakusotsu (K1E 4-6) K Maguroyama (K1W 5-4-1) Oshirokita (M1E 3-7) M1 Kofuji (M1W 2-8) Jejima (M2E 3-7) M2 Harry (M2W 3-7) XiaoTan (M3E 3-7) M3 ilovetochinoshin (M3W 3-7) Holleshoryu (M4E 2-8) M4 Chisaiyama (M4W 2-8) Hidariashiyama (M5E 1-6-3) M5 Gernobono (M5W 3-7) Mae-zumo Ganzohnesushi (mz 2-5-3) Kisenosato's aites: 1. O1E Harumafuji, 2. O3E Chiyotaikai, 3. M3E Iwakiyama, 4. M1W Goeido, 5. O2E Kaio, 6. O2W Kotomitsuki, 7. YE Hakuho, 8. YW Asashoryu, 9. M1E Aran, 10. O1W Kotooshu
XiaoTan Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Maybe they don't want two Kotos in a row, and may be not two Europeans as well? I say Tochiozan (I am not worthy...)
Jakusotsu Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 So many choices, could be any of the sanyaku, so let's just say: Day 11 - Kyokutenho
Kofuji Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 I don't want to steal Kofuji's job, but since guesses are already being entered for day 11, Thanks ... I fell asleep early last night before the torikumi was announced ...
Chisaiyama Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 So many choices, could be any of the sanyaku, so let's just say True it could be any of the Sanyaku but it doesn't have to be Sanyaku. In fact the torikumi makers are supposed to be matching similar records to provide more exciting bouts, both for the rikishi and of course more importantly for the spectators. With that thought in mind, the remaining Sanyaku candidates, Kakuryu, Kyokutenho & Kotoshogiku all have 3-6 records, the available M2s are both MK and he has already met M3 Iwakiyama so it should be: Day 11: M3 Baruto

Asashosakari Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 (edited) Sounds very reasonable, but I think it's more likely that Baruto will be facing Harumafuji on day 11. No idea who Baruto will face, but using him as Kisenosato's opponent already would be a bit of a waste. The ozekis will be busy later, so Kise-Bart is exactly the type of bout that should be kept until the last few days when both can't face any real high-rankers. Now, whether they actually will is a different matter, of course. I'd also disagree that a 3-6 record is bad enough to already disqualify sanyaku opponents from consideration... Once they're MK, sure, but not yet. Edited July 20, 2009 by Asashosakari
Harry Posted July 20, 2009 Posted July 20, 2009 Ilovetochinoshin is on the road so she picks Baruto please.
Jejima Posted July 21, 2009 Author Posted July 21, 2009 (looking forward to hopefully seeing the Kisenosato vs Osh bout live - if we can get tickets on the door....) I'll stick with Kyokutenho (In a state of confusion...)

Yaochoyama Posted July 21, 2009 Posted July 21, 2009 I'm finally catching up with my spreadsheet to figure out the Special Prizes when the basho finishes. I have one discrepancy with the 'official' standings - I couldn't find the win for Kofuji with Asashoryu on Day 8. Kofuji (or anyone else for that matter), could you please refer me to the post where the pick was made.
