Peterao Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Great! Now can you finally stop being rude to the guy and call him by the name he wishes to be known by?
Sasanishiki Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 AMA-zing stuff from Harumafuji. I echo the comment of someone the other day that it no longer seems strange to call him by the new shikona. I love watching the politicians and dignitaries struggle with the huge cups they present! A really popular win by the sound of the crowd during the yusho interview, and they even focused in on his mum in the crowd.
kame Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Superb sumo from Harumafuji against an opponent at the top of his game. It's really something special to witness a hatsu yusho, regardless of who wins. Of note: Asa throwing a few words of support (advice?) Harumafuji's way just before the ketteisen. (Sign of approval...)
Shimpu Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Amazing. I've never expected it. Seriously his progress is simply unbelievable. First ozeki promotion and now yusho... sky is the limit. (Sign of approval...)
Topazu Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (Sign of approval...) (I am not worthy...) (I am not worthy...) HELL YEAH!!!!!!!! FINALLY!!!!!!!! HARUMAFUJI HAS ARRIVED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! CONGRATULATIONS TO HIM!!! I'M SUPER HAPPY!!!!!!!!

Hehe and the purple haired old lady next to his mom too (I am not worthy...) ; but in all seriousness, many congratulations to Harumafuji on a well-fought basho and a much deserved yusho!! I loved the interview hehe: "ureshii desu" ... "ureshii desu" (Sign of approval...) he looks so happy!!
maxim Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 (edited) Congratulations to Harumafuji. I wish he had kept his previous shikona, but a yusho will do. The yokozuna road is in front of him now. Then we'll have all the time in the world to talk about a Mongolian Yokozuna back-scratchers' club. Anyway, great win! Hats off to all Mongolian sumo wrestlers. They're at the peak of the sport, much like Brazilians are in football and ex-Soviets are in fighting sports. Edited May 24, 2009 by maxim
maxim Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=enaBt38ZZ1k Wow, now I see that Hakuho was pulling on the cords on his mawashi.
ilovesumo Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 The guy who should have lost today... (Showing respect...) Thanks

And I promised I'd call him Haruma from now on if he won. Haruma Haruma!! HARUMA!!!....Haruama? Good show. He had it figured out. You can even see him trying to sweep Hakuho's leg on his first throw attempt. Good thing Hakuho didn't wise up to it after that first try. I really think Haruma will have to put on more weight to be a consistent contender, but I guess he has made it further than other lightweight trickmasters such as the eminent Terao, and in short order too. He's got more poise and confidence in himself than Kotooshu; I can see this being the first of many yusho. All those pock marks and acne just make him more loveable some how too, no?
Washuyama Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Just for gee-whiz, Harumafuji is already heavier than Chiyonofuji was and his career didn't go too bad.
Asameshimae Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Just for gee-whiz, Harumafuji is already heavier than Chiyonofuji was and his career didn't go too bad. Really? Hmm. He doesn't look it. I guess it was just that physique that made Chiyonofuji look bigger. He was taller maybe? Well, if that's the case, I take it back. Maybe he can be a very consistent yusho contender without any added weight. Checking my, erm, sources, it says Haruama is one kg lighter than Chiyonofuji. But it could be out of date, and it really doesn't change your argument any.
Bataa Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 Very unexpected and pleasant surprise!!!Way to go man.Just for those who are not familiar with Mongolian wreslting,Haruma's technique used against Hakuho is common in the sport and often very difficult to execute,i was so surprised that he did it and almost flawlessly, eventhough more common version is when the applier of that technique goes backwards dragging the opponent simultanously putting his hand on his knee unlike Haruma's circling version.Still it was flawless.
Orion Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 All these people on the background, who are they? The man in the grey suit just behind H's right shoulder is the Mongolian ambassador to Japan. If memory serves me, his name is Jigjid. Orion
Jeronimozo Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 All these people on the background, who are they? The Ozeki Back-Scratchers' Club (Showing respect...)
Takamizawa Posted May 24, 2009 Posted May 24, 2009 All these people on the background, who are they? Back left is Aminishiki :-P
