salle Posted May 21, 2009 Posted May 21, 2009 his face looks like Yokozuna Asashoryu and defeated !!? if not who is he? Asashoryu was never that fat! Whoever this is he is in 190-200 kg range. Also his face doesn't look like Asa at all.
Washuyama Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Also, the sagari look like the Makushita and below kind...
Sasanishiki Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Certainly not Asa. Besides the other photos in that set show Asa as either having nothing on his feet or wearing white tabi whil on the dohyo, not taping on his feet like that.

James H Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I'd say Yamamotoyama - right time frame (he was jonidan at the time, so the mawashi makes sense), and definitely right build.
Jemira Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 wow u guys really fan of Asa and u know his details ! I was wondering because the pic was in 2007 and in the same sites Asa pic in 2009 I thought maybe it's him
Jemira Posted May 22, 2009 Author Posted May 22, 2009 Looks like Kainowaka and by the way Jemira he is a "rikishi" not a "sumo". ya it seems Kainowaka but what is rikish?
Golynohana Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 "rikishi" means sumo wrestler. "sumo" is name of the sport

kame Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 Looks like Kainowaka and by the way Jemira he is a "rikishi" not a "sumo". "rikishi" means sumo wrestler."sumo" is name of the sport When I first saw this thread I knew someone would bring up this up. While referring to sumo wrestlers as just "sumo" is incorrect in English, it's probably the most common form in Japanese. If not by name, most Japanese (not sumo fans) will call them お相撲さん, osumo-san, which is just like a honorable form of Mr. Sumo (closer to Don Sumo, in Spanish). My impression is that rikishi is hardly used outside non casual conversations. They're also called sumotori (since sekitori are the salaried wrestlers). Kainowaka is a damn good guess :-)
Treblemaker Posted May 22, 2009 Posted May 22, 2009 I'd say Yamamotoyama - right time frame (he was jonidan at the time, so the mawashi makes sense), and definitely right build. For sure not YMY. If anything, YMY is easily identifiable by his skin condition over almost all of his body. And for sure from the lower ranks. Great pic. NOT the one you might show your prospective girlfriend. OR her parents.
