Tumppi Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 So he is 0-3 but he's met the 3 toughest rikishi so far so his record will probably go up quite a bit.
tominishiki Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 I dont think so he maybe wins 4 rikishis no more he just was having a luck last time
Kashunowaka Posted November 11, 2003 Posted November 11, 2003 0-3 didn't break Iwakiyama's spirit the last time, so I think he will start winning soon. But as a komusubi, he will naturally have a much tougher schedule than as a maegashira 5. I think (I hope) he will at least reach the 6-7 win region. That would be a rather successful komusubi debut.
Fujisan Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I dont think he will stay a Komusubi but he will pick up sooner or later-6 or 7 I think.
Naifuzan Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I have faith in the big guy, so I voted 8-9.
Takanobaka Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I went with 6-7 wins....there's a reason most first-time Komusubi don't stick. However, I think he can make it back and possibly make his way up to Sekiwake eventually.
QttP Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 4-11 seems to be the most common result for misplaced Komusubi.
Yubiquitoyama Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 (edited) 4-11 seems to be the most common result for misplaced Komusubi. Well, that pretty much depends on who you would call a misplaced Komusubi as opposed to the correctly placed one. I have a feeling many more or less define the misplaced Komusubi as the one with 4-11. But if that is the case, is Iwakiyama a misplaced Komusubi? I don't think so. I think he'll get at least 6 wins, but I doubt he'll make KK the first time out (very few do, even among those who goes on to illustrious careers). So naturally I voted 6-7 wins... QttP Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 Well, that pretty much depends on who you would call a misplaced Komusubi as opposed to the correctly placed one. I have a feeling many more or less define the misplaced Komusubi as the one with 4-11. Most definitely. Is Iwakiyama a misplaced Komusubi? Who knows. Let's see if he goes 4-11...
Kashunowaka Posted November 12, 2003 Posted November 12, 2003 I think he'll get at least 6 wins, but I doubt he'll make KK the first time out (very few do, even among those who goes on to illustrious careers). So naturally I voted 6-7 wins... Even with 5-10, he would likely not be dropped further down than M3-M4. From that rank he would usually encounter most of sanyaku, which I think would be a good thing if he intends become a sanyaku regular. But (as Yubiquitoyama pointed out) even if the result drops below that line, he would be in very good company.
Tumppi Posted November 12, 2003 Author Posted November 12, 2003 Yes, very few go kk in their komusubi debut it seems, just look at Toki and Sakari.
Jesinofuji Posted November 14, 2003 Posted November 14, 2003 ahem, today, Takamisakari has just eaten Iwakiyama flakes for brekfast. He won't go 0-15, he'll win a few before the tourney's end, 3-5 maybe.
Zenjimoto Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 I predict Iwakiyama will get his first win on Day 8!! :-D
Kashunowaka Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 I predict Iwakiyama will get his first win on Day 8!! :-P I think Iwakiyama could use a break. :-D
Fujisan Posted November 15, 2003 Posted November 15, 2003 A break and his first win is my prediction-I bet he would prefer to fight though.
Manekineko Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 In the end, Iwaki did manage 6 wins. (Holiday feeling...)
Kashunowaka Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 In the end, Iwaki did manage 6 wins. (Holiday feeling...) When Iwakiyama was 2-9 after day 11, I was already prepared to eat humble pie on his behalf. Indeed, he looked like a misplaced komusubi. But in the end, he turned out to be the better of the two komusubi ... :-D Maegashira 2 or thereabout in Hatsu. And perhaps we will even see him win during the first week?

And perhaps we will even see him win during the first week? I'm sure he will, as long as they're not throwing the entire sanyaku at him again during week one. (Holiday feeling...) And hopefully even if they do. (Sign of approval) to Iwakiyama on a very decent sanyaku debut!
Kaikitsune Makoto Posted November 23, 2003 Posted November 23, 2003 Good debut! Never a ragdoll, good bouts against the cream and nice 6-9 record. He is strong and monsterous.
