Doitsuyama Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 Now this was a banzuke-gai cleanout with a total of 12 leaving, so only Hanaoka remained. He will get company from four 0-0-7 rikishi in jonokuchi.

Jonosuke Posted January 28, 2009 Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) Banzuke-guys:Asayamashita- 70 kilo nightclub boy retires Wakamiume (deceased) We knew pretty well Yamashita won't be able to stick around for long time though I think I got flack for suggesting it back then. Sorry to hear about Wakamiume. Magaki Beya is not exactly blessed with good fortune past several years. Wakamiume was diagnosed with leukemia in the 2006 Kyushu Basho and went on kyujo. He passed away on December 15. He was at Makushita 30 when went on kyujo. He was 25 years old. Edited January 28, 2009 by Jonosuke
madorosumaru Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Asayamashita- 70 kilo nightclub boy retires Asayamashita ran away from the heya after Aki Basho. According to the news report, he returned to the heya but then flew the coop again. This time, he was nowhere to be found. Takasago Oyakata gave him every opportunity to come back but it was not to be.

I think it would have been a pretty interesting story if he had managed somehow to develop himself into a good rikishi. Like some sumo fairy tale (Holiday feeling...)

I think it would have been a pretty interesting story if he had managed somehow to develop himself into a good rikishi. Like some sumo fairy tale (Holiday feeling...) Though not of the same background, in some way I want to see these lightweight guys to make it though they look more like a yobidashi. My guy is Chikarayama of Arashio Beya. This basho he finished 4-3 at Jonidan West 100, the very last rank in the division. I was worried he'd fall down to Jonokuchi. The last time I checked he weighed 69 kg. Harry Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) You have to love a 69kg guy with the shikona Chikarayama 力山, 'power mountain'! My 'light' guy is Shintaku, 93.3kg (about the same as me, not light overall but for a rikishi) 3-4 in hatsubasho in jonokuchi (Holiday feeling...) Ganbatte Shintaku! Shintaku 新宅 'new house' is an interesting shikona for sure... Edited January 29, 2009 by Harry

Shintaku 新宅 'new house' is an interesting shikona for sure... Not that weird, given that this his just his real name. I'd say he is the Japanese Casanova. (Holiday feeling...)
Harry Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 I know I should just read Japanese names phonetically without trying to get meanings out of them but I can't help it. I know it is also his real name being in jonokuchi every basho so far; poor guy, he's an adaptee and even I'm making fun of his name... He's actually lighter than when he started; I wonder what he'll weigh this harubasho after the trip to the scale.
madorosumaru Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 (edited) My guy is Chikarayama of Arashio Beya. This basho he finished 4-3 at Jonidan West 100, the very last rank in the division. I was worried he'd fall down to Jonokuchi. The last time I checked he weighed 69 kg. Chikarayama is interesting not only because he is so small. He also happens to be the son of Arashio Oyakata. Earlier Post Both parents were against his joining Ozumo and have very little expectation for his future as a rikishi. Since the kid was so determined, they decided to let him work it out of his system and then get on with his life. In the just-concluded Hatsu Basho, Chikarayama did get kachi-koshi (4-3) but he eked it out by winning the last three bouts. That would be the Ozumo (makushita and under) version of "losers' bracket." Among his "victims" were Wakamiura, who has never risen above jonidan 52 in seven and half years, and the eternal patsy, Fukusegawa. In addition, he won his first bout when his opponent inadvertently stepped out of the dohyo (isami-ashi). The comment in the Arashio HP, likely written by his mother, was: "Oh, my!! What do you know. He got kachi-koshi!" You have to love a 69kg guy with the shikona Chikarayama 力山, 'power mountain'! The kid's given name is Riki 力, ergo 力山. I guess at the time of his birth, the parents had greater expectations. Now, the shikona is about as appropriate as a hooker named Virginia. Edited January 29, 2009 by madorosumaru

Jonosuke Posted January 29, 2009 Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks, Fay. On this photo, he sort looks like a young Ama.

Beisaikyou Posted January 31, 2009 Posted January 31, 2009 Who wears that hilarious Cyber Agent kesho-mawashi? I have it as my cell phone background and still don't know whose it is.
