I like asasekiryu very much.

but I can never find much information on him or nice photos of him!!!

(ok i know he isn't exactly the best wrestler out there...specially not for a mongolian)

Can you all please donate pix of him on this thread

thanks!

He also isn't exactly the worst wrestler out there. Even when he isn't putting together stellar results, he can usually be relied on to produce good, workmanlike sumo.

Or as I've seen it put somewhere before: He's already looked like a grizzled makuuchi veteran for years now, and he's still only 27...

At the last Kyushu Basho, there was a whole class of adorable little schoolkids with an "Asasekiryu Ganbare!" banner the day I was there. They were ecstatically cheering him on. Too bad he lost that match. :( I wish I'd gotten a picture of them!

I had the privilege of being invited to have chanko with him after asageiko during the Kyushu basho. I can thank one of the high priestesses in the church of sumotology (Barbaryutaikai) for arranging it. Now I can cross that off my list of 101 things to do before I go the big dohyo in the sky. She is so well connected she even got asked over to the bath tub to chat with him. Luckily there was a strategically placed rubber ducky.

I was very impressed when he sent back one of the dishes that was served to him because it was too oily.I forget the name of the Takasago deshi who served it but he is always kyujo and seems more interested in the kitchen than the dohyo. It was good to witness first hand just how healthy the rikishi are-contrary to the opinion of the uneducated stereotype mongers. He didn't over eat and everything on the menu was extremely healthy. Mind you he said he wasn't feeling too crash hot that basho but I'm sure he would gobble a bit more after a heavy keiko session. He was happy to accept some Tim Tams originally destined for the AWOL yokozuna so sweet things are not entirely off the diet.

I think he is a little under rated in terms of popularity and has to live in the almighty shadow of Asashoryu but I don't think that bothers him.He could easily step up to more responsibility but whats the point with such an uninspiring stablemaster who just sits there reading the paper in sloppy tracky daks (track pants). Undoubtedly he benefits from having such a formidable training partner. He can be a real giant killer on occasions but he seems too nice to maintain the aggression needed to give him more consistent results. Physically I have always wondered why he can

Judging by your sniping posts the last few days at all and sundry I'm guessing it's your time of the month?

Unfortunately his time of the month lasts and lasts and lasts .......

Although he sure didn't appreciate it last year when the gyoji accidentally called him Asashoryu...

Hi,

Been waiting 3+ years for someone to ask... (Nodding yes...). Asasekiryu in Vegas, 2005 - Enjoy:

awww!!!

um.. is that you in black?

and wow i didnt know asasexyryu had a school kid fanbase

Well, no it's not me (not having had the 'operation.' (Whistling...)) Actually, I think I know the identity of the lady - a growed adult...didn't know her at the time but think I met her two years hence. But isn't it interesting how being starstruck can take years off your life.
