Kintamayama Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) As mentioned elsewhere, Kotomitsuki went kyujo today. Reason given - right ankle injury. "This morning we discussed it and decided. He wanted to fight till the end, so he's quite dejected. Next basho, he will start anew", explained Sadogatake Oyakata. This is Kotomitsuki's first kadoban situation. Edited January 22, 2009 by Kintamayama

Hakuho will get an easy win today :-)
Sasanishiki Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 The way Kotomitsuki was fighting this basho it would have been an easy win for Hakuho anyway!
sekihiryu Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 Kotomitsuki out - sadly he was never really "in" this basho to begin with. Rest and be well big man.
Asashosakari Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 (edited) Not a huge shock, I guess...the papers were already going down the "you know, if you loses all remaining bouts he'll post the worst 15 day ozeki result ever" route yesterday (and I have trouble seeing how he could have won another one), and when it's even publicly discussed how your futility approaches such historical levels...well. I wonder what this does to Taikai's own KK chances...Goeido (I guess) instead of Mickey on senshuraku presents definitely a more interesting scenario. (Assuming losses against both yokozuna, of course.) Edited January 22, 2009 by Asashosakari

They should start matching Ozekis in the beginning of a basho... Or force Kaio to retire..

This Ozeki mutual back-scratching has become so pathetic..They should start matching Ozekis in the beginning of a basho... Or force Kaio to retire.. Well, as long as Kaio goes 7-2 against everyone below Ozeki (as of Day 12) with both losses only coming against strong sanyaku rikishi there is little reason to force him to retire?!

Exactly my thoughts - it is not as if Chiyotaikai is currently the strongest running Ozeki.
brewdude Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 well, this will make the guess the GTK pretty entertaining to figure out this basho :)
Gernobono Posted January 22, 2009 Posted January 22, 2009 is there any known reason why hakuho got kotomitsuki on day 12 and not the in-line kotooshu?
