Doitsuyama Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Hakuho and Asashoryu had no problems to beat Takekaze and Toyonoshima and stay without a loss. By now it should be pretty clear that we won't see an Asashoryu retirement anytime soon, maybe taking out the excitement of the basho for some. Kotooshu and Chiyotaikai were the only winning ozeki today as Kisenosato was too strong for Kaio and Harumafuji and Kotomitsuki fell to 1-5 in clear losses against Goeido and undefeated Baruto. Tochiozan is still winning with his forward moving sumo, beating Tokitenku for his sixth win. Hokutoriki, Kakuryu and Tamanoshima are also looking good in the lower makuuchi half, all winning today to move to 5-1. Homasho was the only 3-2 rikishi winning today, beating out-of-form Toyohibiki. Kaio is the only other rikishi at 4-2 as the other six rikishi at 4-1 all won. Bottom juryo Hakuba is the last undefeated rikishi in juryo as he beat Yotsuguruma while Hoshihikari lost to Wakakirin. Lead juryo Shotenro still looks strong, beating Kotokasuga with power to stay one behind the lead. Mokonami dropped to 4-2, getting joined by four Japanese rikishi. Shin-juryo Kotokuni lost to Ushiomaru and dropped to 2-4 at the last juryo rank. Musashoryu Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Is there something wrong with Ama-now fuji? Goeido looked very strong and overpowered him quickly. Asa is looking good and Hakuho was his usual powerful self.
Barang Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Kotooshu - Baruto match is definately interesting. If Baruto wins it then he has slim change to secure kachi-koshi on Sunday.
Jakusotsu Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Tochiozan is still winning with his forward moving sumo As he does with his backward moving sumo on odd numbered days.
