Takamizakura Posted January 15, 2009 Author Posted January 15, 2009 Edit: Ah, are they done already? I figured they'd do 4 days with so many participants... I was just asking myself the same question. How do I find out if there is another round tomorrow? Somehow the scores don't look finished to me, I guess there will be some final bouts tomorrow. There'll be another round tomorrow, as confirmed by the stewards.
Doitsuyama Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 (edited) Day 3 lineups, video & results: 9. Azumaryu vs. Kishi (07:50) W-L Azumaryu 2-2Kishi 3-1 This doesn't really fit - who won here? Edit: I see the video is uploaded, thanks for that!! Well, this answered my question of course. Today's bouts and the current standings are in Sumo Reference now. Naganoyama Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 This forum gets better and better, maezumo results posted directly AND videos!!! Wow!
Asashosakari Posted January 15, 2009 Posted January 15, 2009 Today's bouts and the current standings are in Sumo Reference now. Nagai's missing the second absence. (Nodding yes...) Good to hear there are bouts to come tomorrow, that makes more sense. Doesn't totally explain why Azumaryu and Kishi got an extra bout today (such additional "2-win playoffs" are normally a mark of the final day), but hey, one fewer guy to bring back tomorrow. (Nodding yes...) Thanks for the video again! (Clapping wildly...)

Takamizakura Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) Day 4 lineup & results; video here: 1. Takanoiwa vs. Asahyuga (00:01) W-L 2. Takarafuji vs. Aimoto (01:10) W-L 3. Obamaumi vs. Mori (01:55) W-L 4. Daitoku vs. Amatsu (02:51) L-W *5. Takaeppo vs. Naoe (03:30) W-L 6. Takatoshi vs. Kishi (04:42) W-L 7. Naoe vs. Kishi (05:41) W-L *My highlight bout. There was also a henka in amongst today's bouts, but I s'pose his "kachikoshi" was on the line. (Clapping wildly...) Edited January 16, 2009 by Takamizakura

yamaneko Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 how in the world did TODBILEG lose twice? i thought he would be a man amongst boys in maezumo
Doitsuyama Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Thanks! Mae-zumo results are now complete in the database. I suppose the next magazine still can be useful to add the kimarite though.
Azumashida Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 how in the world did TODBILEG lose twice? i thought he would be a man amongst boys in maezumo Well, 2-2 is incorrect. You should watch the bouts! (Neener, neener...)
Takamizakura Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) I've corrected the records for Azumaryu, Kishi, and Takatoshi, after recounting the W-L records from each day & rewatching those bouts. The Day 4 video is now up as well. Again, feel free to help me correct the results if you see any discrepancies between what I filmed and the posted results; nobody's perfect. (Oops!) Lastly, the Kokugikan stewards said there'll be maezumo tomorrow. Does anyone have tomorrow's torikumi who can confirm this? Edited January 16, 2009 by Takamizakura
Fay Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I only know for sure that the Takanohana Mongolian will fight tomorrow, so I guess I have to be there at 8:15 or so (Neener, neener...)
Takamizakura Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Maezumo has started more or less at 08:40 every morning. If it's on again tomorrow, you'll have an extra few minutes of (Neener, neener...)
Fay Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Good to hear, that could save my life tomorrow (Neener, neener...)
Manekineko Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 I just post to say (Neener, neener...) thank you (In love...)
Azumashida Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 (edited) The Day 4 video is now up as well. Again, feel free to help me correct the results if you see any discrepancies between what I filmed and the posted results; nobody's perfect. (Oops!) No problem, actually it was great to first see the disappointing 2-2 record for Azumaryu and then get the relief of the 3rd win when seeing the bout. (Whistling...) for sharing this priceless footage, quite a few very promising talents in action at the Kokugikan for the first time! Edited January 16, 2009 by Azumashida
Takamizakura Posted January 16, 2009 Author Posted January 16, 2009 Cheers, Azumashida (Whistling...) Even though the press has thinned out, I was kind of surprised at how many media turned up on Maezumo Day 1. Since catching up on from reading the new recruits post, I now understand that there's a lot of media interest for the Takanohana-beya twins. Most of the people who've been turning up to watch have seem to be fans of theirs. Just wondering, have any prospects disappointed? Would Takarafuji (ex-Sugiyama) be in that category?
Azumashida Posted January 16, 2009 Posted January 16, 2009 Just wondering, have any prospects disappointed? Would Takarafuji (ex-Sugiyama) be in that category? Most definitely, based on his college performances he was supposed to be the best of the lot... OTOH, Nogami looks extremely promising, and perhaps more mature than most would have anticipated...

Takamizakura Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 Standings after Day 5: *Aimoto 2-3 Aoki 3-0 Amatsu 3-1 *Asahuga 1-5 Azumaryu 3-1 *Daitoku 0-5 *Kishi 2-6 *Mori 2-3 Naoe 3-2 Nogami 3-0 *Obamaumi 3-3 Takageppo 3-1 *Takanoiwa 3-3 *Takarafuji 3-2 Takatoshi 3-1 * Fought today.
Takamizakura Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 I hope that's the end. I'm not sure why they scheduled another day today, unless the NSK didn't get enough 3-win rikishi from yesterday. According to this banzuke.com post, the maezumo graduates are presented at least 2 times before the end of the tournament. I await gasps from the crowd if/when Mori steps out.
Doitsuyama Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 I hope that's the end. I'm not sure why they scheduled another day today, unless the NSK didn't get enough 3-win rikishi from yesterday. Today's bouts are added to Sumo Reference now. I think that's it, the three rikishi at two wins are all from Kokonoe-beya, that's probably the reason why they didn't continue to get another three win rikishi.
Sokkenaiyama Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Obamaumi... Is he Nigerian-American by any chance?
Takamizakura Posted January 17, 2009 Author Posted January 17, 2009 Obamaumi... Is he Nigerian-American by any chance? Obama's ancestry is part Kenyan, not Nigerian.
Sokkenaiyama Posted January 17, 2009 Posted January 17, 2009 Yeah, Kenyan, that's what I meant. :-) :-O
