Regarding this proposed rule that you can't pick the same rikishi two days in a row - I'm definitely against it for the following reasons:

1. This game is hard enough and the scoring is low enough without imposing additional restrictions.

2. I don't see this rule as adding a strategic element - rather it's gimmicky with a large luck factor involved. If you feel someone is due to be aite and he's not selected, why can't you pick him the next day? Why should you be forced to select only your 2nd choice?

3. Sometimes you will be even forced to go with your 3rd choice. Let's say I'm a bout up going into Day 15. One of you (let's call him Jejima) is a bout behind. We both figure the odds for Kisenosato's opponent is something like this: Rikishi A - 50%, Rikishi B - 45, Rikishi C - 4%. eveyone else - 1%. Unfortunately for Jejima, he incorrectly picked Rikishi A on Day 14. Even though I like A for my pick, I make the strategic move of selecting B, forcing Jejima to have to go with Rikisihi C if he wants to have any hope of winning the yusho.

4. Rather than keeping his a fun game, it will make some days of the basho completely boring and meaningless. It was pretty clear after the torikumi makers crossed us up and picked Kotoshogiku as aite on Day 7 that Hakuho would be the Day 8 aite. If this proposed rule was in place, almost all of us would have been forced to make picks that we were almost sure would be wrong. Would kind of fun would that be?

If someone wants to impose that restriction on themselves, all well and good, but to make it a rule that everyone has to follow is, simply put, a stupid idea.

5. Players that are leading the Yusho race (especially in the final few days of the basho), are requested / expected to get their picks in very early (before all the other players, if possible) - in order to avoid suspicions of 'tactical picking'.

>This means that Yaochoyama is invited to pick early.

Since we're on the topic of rules, please allow me say a few words on this one also. I suggested this rule last basho and certainly agree with it, however I don't think it's necessary for it to come into play on Day 9. I think the following should be a rough guideline:

3 bouts up - from Day 11 on

2 bouts up - from Day 12 on

1 bout up - from Day 13 on

Co-leader (with trailers still yusho eligible) - from Day 14 on

Speaking subjectively of my own circumstances, today I'm not following my usual schedule, so I'll try to make an entry within the hour. However given my schedule, most days it is most convenient for me to enter relative close to deadline. If I still have the lead in a few days, I'll try to follow the guidelines I outlined above, but even then, it will be difficult for me to get my entry in before 4:00 AM JST.

But I'm sure most of y'all will rally and seize the lead for yusho within a few days, so then you can be the one who has to worry about getting an early entry in (Shaking head...)

Agree with the Mountain of Ill-gotten Envelopes on most of the stuff said, including his pick for day 9. So, Kotomitsuki for me too. I disagreee, though, on the public visibility of the entries, I still think they should be secret, like (most of) the other games.

About the "Maguroyama rule": I'm not sure it should be an official rule, I just found it pretty boring to pick the same rikishi for three or four days straight, so wanted to try and avoid that. As we could see yesterday, it can also be pretty stupid... Maybe also tomorrow when I should pick Kotomitsuki, but instead will pick TOYONOSHIMA. (My new tactics may fail miserably this basho, but maybe I can get a kanto-sho or something?) B-)

Oshirokita (A yokozuna...) was the only one to correctly predict Miyabiyama!

Yaochoyama is still the sole leader, and so once again the invitation is extended to him to make an early pick.

Thanks, if only I had started before Day 3... I could have had Day 1 Asashoryu correct too.

Day 10 leaping on the bandwagon for Kotomitsuki

Drat and double drat, I missed the %^&%^& deadline for Day 9! Anyway for Day 10 I vote Kotomitsuki.

As for the no dribbling rule on picks I am against it. I usually don't do it but sometimes it happens to be necessary.

Once again the NSK has thrown out a curve ball. MIckey has been matched up against Asashoryu on day 10! Kisenosato will face M3E Takekaze instead!

Yaochoyama is still the sole leader, and so once we again we invite him to make an early pick.

Kotomitsuki still seems the obvious pick, but I am wondering if he will face Hakuho on day 11 - in order for him to have faced both (yusho challenging) yokozanas whilst still with a slim chance of KK.....?

I guess the result of his bout today will be telling, so I may change my Kisenosato aite pick later....

But for the meantime....

Maybe Day --- 11 Kyokutenho?

aaaargh, I was THIS close to being a contrarian on Day 10 and picking Takekaze (really!) but went with the obvious (but wrong) choice of Kotomitsuki.

anyway, Day 11 Kotomitsuki (again)
